Is bone density the same all over?

Dexa Scans measure hips and I don't remember where else.  Are those results counted on systemwide?

ie...if your hips don't show osteoporosis, does that mean you don't HAVE osteoporosis or does that mean you don't have osteoporosis in your hips?

My last DEXA measured lumbar spine, femoral neck and radius.  The first two were similar, the radius was significantly different.  I don't know what any of it means.

I know my last DEXA showed osteoporosis in the femur, osteopenia in the spine, so I was considered to be osteoporotic.

They usually take a look at a few crucial load baring areas and compare bone thickness and ossification.

you can have different scores on R hip, L hip, spine, and wrists, yet have great scores on ankles and fingers.

My wrists are at a very frightening - 3.9 (that means I only have 61% left), but ankles and fingers tested "as good as a 30 y/o". One hip is the worse than the other, but they take turns each year. Sadly, both are more than the "line", -2.5

Spine comes and goes over that line, sometimes dipping as low as -2.1.

I think the line for osteopenia is 2.0,, porosis is 2.5, and 3.0 is rickets (osteomalacea), unless I've lost all my marbles.

BTW, once you have this dx, you can have all kinds of insurance problems, life, long term, stuff like that.

Don is one of the few who moved from porosis back to penia and only has one number that is only 0.1 into penia. I feel like if I stuff one more calcium into him, he'll be "normal" again. Good thing he was able to bring himself this far back. At the rate he's
been falling off things, I'd have to cart him around in a large ziploc!
