how do you know if you are losing at proper pace?

I lost weight more slowly than other lightweights who are of similar age and height to me (judging by the old lab rat data forms).  I'm still 3-5lbs away from the illusive goal, but I'm 5' 7" and I wear sizes 2/4 at 15 1/2 months out.

I recommend using My Fitness Pal (MFP) to track how many protein grams and carbs you're having.  Calories don't matter as much as where they're coming from.  MFP is better than FitDay and Livestrong in terms of its flexibility and the huge food database they have.

As others have stated, I would recommend using at least 2 protein shakes in the losing phase.  I do coffee protein shakes in the morning, two of them for 50g of protein each.  It takes me about 90 minutes to drink them both, and I also eat food with it (bacon or eggs usually).  I try to get in at least 100g of protein before 10am.
