The "good example" thing? I asked my husband, who had a heart attack eleven years ago, if he minded going to a place that earned its reputation on steaks. He said, "No...they've got great halibut and, besides, I'll be a good example for my BIL." So BIL ordered the fried chicken.
This is excellent news. Who knows, maybe when she sees how much losing the weight frees her, she'll want more badly enough to get the full DS.
Is she in charge of the cooking? If so, her new habits might end up being imposed on the BIL.
But, until he is dependent on care, there's no choice but to watch him kill himself with his diet. My Mom was like that. Diabetic, didn't test her sugar, and thought a box of brown sugar cinnamon Pop-Tarts was enough food for the day.
After I took over her care and fed her protein laden meals, she lost 50 pounds and eventually her diabetes. But, she was on a self-inflicted fast track to death until then. And there was nothing we or her doctor could do about it.

Hi there.. I am a revision patient (started with a lap band) went to Dr. Ungson in Mexico for revision to the DS, but due to my cardiomyopathy, woke up to a revision to just the VSG, as my lungs started giving out during the surgery so they surgeons had to stop at this point. Although I had prepared and gone in for a DS, this is what I ended up having due to uncontrollable reasons as I stated.
Having said that I had my VSG on Feb 2011 this year and so am 7 mths post-op and all my co-morbidities (diabetes, BP, triglycerides, etc) have ALL gone. I am off all of those prescription meds as well. In addition, I am very close to becoming an 'overweight' and not 'obese' category on the BMI scale, so I'd say so far so good.
Now that I have passed the initial 6 mth rapid loss stage, the loss is slowing down, though I try to kick-start as much as possible but find that I have to work EXTRA hard to do it (ie. eat very very limited and restricted quantities of food and add in some type of exercise).. and it leads me to rethink to myself.. HOW difficult things are going to be for me personally once I reach a maintenance stage. and it's really pushing me (mentally) to re-read DS boards and about the 2-part DS results and even getting the malabsorption switch part because I am SO afraid of regain and honestly not sure if I truly 'enjoy' this VERY restrictive lifestyle that I currently have, and wonder if this is the way it will have to be the rest of my life to maintain once I reach goal. But since my BMI is already reaching a much lower level than needed for insurance approvals, etc I would have to SELF-PAY again or work exclusively with a surgeon who will be able to try this as a non-weight loss related but rather gastric surgery or something. Since i self-paid for the initial surgery, I wont even consider the addition of the switch unless I can get insurance help the next time around. just can't afford repeat surgery after surgery...ughh!!
DEEP sighs...
Anyway..........I wish your sis luck :) and I would say with the VSG the results are great but you have to be prepared to work really hard on the whole diet / exercise part with due diligence (i feel like i'm back on one of my crazy restrictive dieting days from high school sometimes).. and i am NOT 100% sure HOW my body will react / regain / bounce back once I reach goal and maintenance.
There's my 2 cents....
hugs..

Thanks so much for your honest appraisal. (And have I already told you that I really like SOMEplace in Castle Rock...was it Pegasus? Had lunch there with a friend a couple years back. Gotta do it again soon.)
You've done well. Let us assume that your next addiciton will be exercise!!!
(Did Ungson say how much it would cost to do Part II?)
