I had decided two years ago I did not want to be fat and 50.  (I didn't want to be fat and 40 but that day came and went).  I had my DS Jan 8, 2010 and have done great.  I now weigh 139 and wear a size 6-8.  When I started I was 327 and a size 26-28.  I can do so much more, I can't even put it into words.  My birthday is Sept. 9 and yes, I will not be fat and 50.  Goal met.
Even this far out I hear commitments of "just give it time, you eat like that and you will put it all back on and more".  I have just come to except some people choose to be ignorant.  You can explain the DS and how it works but if the other party will not let that info into their brain, you just have to let it go.  Does anyone ever get the feeling some people are just waiting and hoping you will fail and go back to your old size?  What is that?  I am very happy with my DS.  I have had one major draw back and that is hair lose.  However, I do not know who much that is due to my DS, Thyroid, and I also have blood cancer(Nothing to do with surgery).  I am very happy with my out come and encourage anyone out there to read, read, read, decide whats best for you, and do it.  Thanks to all for all the love and support over the last two years and my journey with the DS.  Gena

Congratulations on your successes so far. You've done great and I'm sure it shows in so many ways. Some folks are just going to be unhappy and judgmental. It must be sad being them.

We are just a couple weeks apart in surgery dates.  I have lost 185 but I am not at goal yet.   I need to lose about 30-40 more.

I too have ppl telling me that I will gain back my wt just like RNY ppl do.  I am sick of explaining the DS to ppl that are half minded and only hear small amounts of information.  I have 3rd stage heart disease of calcium build up and the DS has saved my life because it stopped fatty deposits all together so all I have is calcium now and we can only treat that with prayers but I am alive and so are you.

Even though I am not at goal I am ok and happy to be turning 50 on March 31, 2012 not being in a size 32 anymore but now a 12-16 depending on how it is made.  I am also going to medical school heart disease or not because why be alive on this earth without a dream to follow and med school has always been my dream.

I am so proud to read your post and gain inspiration from  you.  Keep up your faith and enjoy your new life everyday and don't worry about what ppl say anymore.

You just made my day, month, and year.  As I look back over the years, I keep asking myself what I have accomplished?  Some goals I have met, others not, so I have been kicking around the idea of going after two, not for the prestige, because I would enjoy it for me.  You give so much to your children, family, and for me, the church (I'm a minister), I have wanted to give myself permission at this stage in my life to do something for me.  Like you, I'm going for it.  Thank you so much.  You will never know how your perfect timing has helped me with this.  Gena

Well then, Gena.  You being a minister should know that God puts dreams in your heart and it is up to you to listen and do.

So praise God for your new life everyday and listen to your heart and take hold of your dreams.  When you follow your dreams it will effect others (see how the plans work.)

I uploaded a pic on my profile check it out.  I love the low rise jean.  I could never even dream of wearing a low rise jean prior to the panniculectomy.
