Did I miss an update?  I tried to go back and check but didn't see anything.  I have been sick over her situation.  I hope she is getting good care.  Has anyone spoken with her?

Haven't seen anything either.  Hopefully she's improving and getting the correct medical attention to make a full recovery.

Pick your surgery first, then your surgeon. Not the other way around.
PS:... Potato chips should be a food group.

I'm tired of screwing with that damn health widget.
I've lost 125 pounds to date!!!!
   And I'm UNDER 190 now!!!

Hi, and thanks for the concern.  I'm still trudging along.  My B1 labs came back, at 25 (which is "technically" in normal range) so they have refused to treat me with Thiamine, and since I am technically "stable" (even though my BP is still in the toilet after DAYS of IV fluids) they have discharged me.  I have been taking B1 orally on my own though.  I'm assuming that a level of 25 is just WAY too low for ME to function, even though it's "normal".  In any case, I am slowly making slight progress each day.  I am following up with a neuro and they are now testing for additional autoimmune issues, and Multiple Sclerosis.  The labs should be back today, and I have another MRI tomorrow.  Eh, whatever, I still think its the B1.  I'm also in PT 3 days a week trying to regain some control of my muscles and improve the neuropathy.  I'm really not thrilled with how all this played out, but it is what it is.  I have a second opinion consult set up at Hopkins for the end of the week after everything is back, thankfully, I know the head of Neurology there quite well, and he agreed to review my case with his team.  So, that's what it is.  I got home early this morning, and have just been kind of aimlessly putzing around the house.  DD is at school and DH is at work.  Im pretty bored, but Im here :)

I came across a study that implicated bacterial overgrowth in some thiamine deficiencies.  Any symptoms of that?

 No, no bowel changes.

Didn't you say you'd had troubled emptying?  Am I imagining that symptom?  Overgrowth is not always diarrhea.  It presents itself with constipation-like symptoms in me.

Just something to keep in mind.  No weird gas?  Abnormal food intolerances?  It could have been going on for months and you just contributed it to your DS?

I had some minor constipation (incomplete emptying, still having 2 bowel movements each AM, just not the volume Im used to) for a few days, but it resolved in the hospital (they were feeding me crap).  No gas or intolerances.
