Need a little advice- Labs not looking good

Hi all,

Been a while, quick update.  I have been doing fine, had a few episodes of dizziness and almost passing out ( happened twice and only while on the toilet after doing my business).  Very scary and strange.  Anyway had labs done and this is the first time I've ever had issues with stuff. See below

Red Blood cell count   3.38      (range 3.8 -5.10)
Hemoglobin 10.9                       (range 11.7 -15.5)
Hematocrit  33.5                       (Range 35 -45)
Phosphorus 4.6                       (range 2.5 -4.5)
CO/2  20                                   (range 21 -33)

Cholesterol 110 (range 125-200)  Not concerned

Prothrombin 11 seconds (in range)
PTT, activated  38 seconds (range 22 -34)

Carotene, serum  2          (range 6-77)
Prealbumin  16                 (range 17 - 34)
Vitamin A 31                      (range 38-98)
Zinc  45                              (range 60-130)

Just for additional info:
Iron 71 (in range)
Ferritin 90 (in range) but I'm starting to take Ferratin pills too now.

I'm thinking the low Prealbumin (protein) my be the reason everything else is going wacky.  What do you all think?

I'm beefing up big time on bars and shakes.  How long do you think it will take to get my protein levels back up? I'm worried about that Hemoglobin level.  What's up with that?

I'm kinda bummed because I have plastics scheduled for November.  And that aint gonna happen with my protein and hemoglobin in the toilet.

Any insights and interpretations welcomed.  I see my doctor next week, but want to start all I can to get this under control as soon as possible.

Thanks all.

Hugs
Christina

Go see a hematologist.  Discuss iron infusions.

You must increase your protein intake. Immediately.

Are you taking vitalady's stuff and regimen?  If not you need to.  NOW.

What are your calcium and PTH levels?  How about Vit D, K,  and E ?

I do follow Vitalady's plan, and have recently started taking more iron and Vit A & D.  These I have been struggling to keep up for a while.

Calcium 8.6  (range 8.6 -10)
Not seeing where PTH is on this report...hmmm
or E and K (are they called something else on here?

Vit D is 37 (range 30-100)

Do you think I need to persue iron infusions already?  crap!

Thank  for the reply!

Iron infusions are your friend. Go get them. I'm very glad I did, and my levels were better than yours.

really.  I will look into this.  Thank you.  Did you just seek out your own hemotologist or go through your surgeon or what?

I do not see a surgeon for any reason, ever.

I found my hematologist on my own.

I got it done while on vacation in MT. I called an internal medicine group while I was planning this and got right in. If I had done this here in NJ I would have gone through the oncology/hematology group connected to the hospital system that employs my PCP, most likely. Or I might have gone hematologist shopping on my own.

I made an appt. with a local hemotologist for next Friday.  Can't hurt right...

Newbie question here, trying to learn all I can.  Newyork***** if you don't mind, could you help me understand the need for iron infusions if her iron is in range?  Is it that "in range" is actually "out of range" for DS'ers?  Want to make sure I know what to be looking for when I get switched.  Thanks in advance.

For a DSer her levels are not high enough.  Plus the iron level is not the only thing to consider.  Look at the first set of numbers she listed...
