I still love diet coke and drink one per day. At 3 months out, I could only drink about 1/4 of one, but go ahead and try it.

Don't worry - I really doubt you, or your stomach, are going to explode.     Pour a small amount over ice (that helps to flattern it a bit) and give it a try.   I was not ready for it at three months - it make my stomach queasy (and I was a HUGE diet Coke freak pre-op).   Unfortunately, now, at five years out, I can swill down two 20-oz'ers a day.   It's my one vice.   Well, that, and potato chips.

Go ahead and try a little, but I doubt you will find it as appealing as you may think it will be.  I used to be a diet soda addict, and I do have one occassionally now, but the carbonation is kind of a turn off now.

I dont think it will hurt to have a small amount to see how you like it.  Pouring it over ice will get rid of some of the carbonation, but there will still be plenty unless you let it sit out a while and get flat.

Thanks you all for listening and giving me suggestions. I will try my good ol' Coke Zero with lots of ice, when/if I get the urge again :).

Be careful, sip slowly. Sometimes all it takes is one sip and it's a lot of gas. My first try at soda was really funny- I took one sip and I was belching uncontrolably for 3 minutes, I sounded like a frog.

I probably started before that and right from the can. I did take smaller sips and held them in my mouth for a couple of seconds before swallowing to dissipate some of the carbonation. Take it slowly and you should be fine.

No, my surgeon made no such restrictions. Beyond the immediate post-op eating guidelines, it was all about common sense.

I know how you feel, soda was my biggest vice prior to surgery.  I've been craving it too, but I haven't given in.  I've been drinking water and Crystal Lite, which of course is not nearly as fun.  I like Pepsi Max.  However, I think I've been sleeping better without the soda.  Someday I'll try it again.

Oh for the love of God.  Have a soda.

I had my first soda the day I got out of the hospital.

I wasn't a big soda drinker pre-op, but I have cravings for them now. I'm one of the unlucky ones though that gets excrutiating pain after drinking something with carbonation. The last time I took 3 sips of a coke, I was in the fetal position for hours afterwards thinking I was going to die. That'll get rid of those cravings, lol!

Pour it over ice and then let it sit for 20 mins.  SOme of the carbonation wil be gone, and it will be easier to handle.
