That is great news! I am just curious tho, as a heart patient did you limit fats at all in your diet after the DS? Sometimes I wonder if I am being too liberal with them and if I could still end up with a heart problem as I suspect I must have been close to getting one . .?

I started out limiting fats then I found myself craping concrete all the time.  So I upped my fat and everything leveled out.

Now, as far as not limiting fat and my heart disease, well my triglycerides are below normal now which happened suddenly after losing about 120.  My cardiologist is very pleased and we are taking a cholesterol lowering drug "antistatin" Simvastain to lower it as close to zero as possible.

I have calcium build up which is a hereditary form of heart disease.  The DS is a blessing.  It allows me to eat fat and not worry because when you absorb approx 20% fat only then you don't increase your risk or make heart disease worse.

With that said, DS is a miracle for me and it is why I am alive.  Fat deposits and calcium deposits together would have already killed me.  Hope this helps.

Carla

P.S.  IMO, DS should be given to all Diabetic/heart disease pateints that through counseling and promise to follow the rules, to fix alot of health problems in our world today.

CARLA!!!    I'm so glad to see a post from you.  You're still my she-ro for doing that drive round trip from Florida to New Jersey TWICE!  You rock!

It sounds like you're doing great!  Definitely finish your DNP (that's a doctorate in nursing practice, yes?).  Start your business.  Create a career and live that you truly love!  Live life to the fullest--tomorrow is not promised to any of us.

I look forward to hearing about you adding to the anecdotal evidence that yes, several years after DS, heart disease progression can end or even be reversed.  Hang in there!

Hey you made me blush lol.  Yes DNP is Doctorate of Nurse Practictioner.  I started out in PA program and had to drop out to go to Ohio and take care of my Dad and see that he died the way he wanted.  I have to wait too long to get back in to PA program and I am impateint by nature so I took the DNP route and I think I am gonna be happy with that.

I pray everyday that they come up with something to decrease calcium deposits in the coronary arteries.  Alos Diane Cox and others have read stuff where after a while with the DS heart disease regresses.  I just wonder if that is fatty deposits or calcium deposits.

Maybe I will specilaize in cardiology but for now I am not really sure what speciality I want.  I was thinking about WLS.

I don't post much cause I am up and running all the time.  But now I have time while recovering from surgery.

I am a fighter, I will not give up.

Hi Anna
I used to come to Tampa alot.  My sister was a heart/lung transplant nurse at Tampa Bay.  She died at age 40, 4 years ago from a massive heart attack while at work there at Tampa Bay.  She had lived in St. Petersburg and my parents snow birded there every year for season.

Heart disease runs in my family.   We build up calcium in our arteries and if you add the high cholesterol to that then you spell early death.  The DS stopped the cholesterol build up thank God.  Now I pray for something to happen to stop the calcium build up.

I not only love my DS I thank God for it because without it I truly would be dead.  I just dont understand why insurance will not pay for this surgery.  There are so many ppl that need this and wow the health benefits are too many to mention.
