Congrats to you Steve! I know you will be glad to get that J-tube taken out. Pretty soon you are going to have to change your screenname to "Little Steve" with that great weight loss!

Keep up the good work, and Congrats again!

What ho, sugar free popsicle fetish? This MIGHT be pica and you might be actually craving to chew ice. Get your iron related blood stuff tested, and soon.

Michelle told me last night at dinner (that's Vitalady) of a friend/customer who had developed severe anemia. She developed a sudden truly MAMMOTH popsicle thing. We're talking boxes of popsicles per day. Michelle was there to visit her at this time and so witnessed the degree of craving and consumption.

Suddenly the coin dropped for her and she realized ICE CRUNCHING!! (Which yes, can be a pica thing.) I don't recall if she was getting the anemia treated yet at that point or not.

Anyhow, that was fresh in my mind when I read your post.

Yes, iron CAN bottom out that fast and that early postop. If you know you had terrific iron related values (which is not just total iron, but ferritin, RBC's and a couple other things that escape me at the moment) right before surgery, there is still a minute risk that this early postop, you could be leaking a bit of blood at the various surgical areas (on the inside).

I didn't realize that ice crunching could be a pica thing.  Good Lord I love ice crunching, I've been doing it since my band.

Hmm.

Pre-op but now I'm thinking I need to check that out.  Don't want deficiencies going into this.

Thanks for the heads up on that.  Interesting.

Definitely get a VERY comprehensive set of nutritional labs done so you can improve yourself well before surgery.

Glad to hear you are doing better. Awesome job on the weight loss! I know how you feel about the J-Tube. I hated mine. I could never get it open. We'll count the days with you until you can get it out!
