I also have an appointment with my GYN and am going to schedule a uterine ablastion.  We've already discussed it.

I do sometimes get a restless leg (and arm) thing going on, but not each night.

I'll call the PCP back this morning when they open and just ask to see him as opposed to just getting a script for more labs.

Fingers crossed I can get in quickly like one of the posters above.

You should have had an infusion back in March!   Those are pretty crappy results.   My hemo doc didn't even try me on another type of iron, she just sent me straight to infusion land.    You need to be seeing a hemo doc, not a PCP.     I have two infusions a year, and since my ablation, I only need them every eighteen months.   You are going to be AMAZED at how much better you will feel!

p.s. on the ablation - mine has not been a 100% outstanding stellar success.   At first, I really regretted having it.   Because you still cycle, you still get all the crabbiness, bloating, cramps, and this terribly full congested feeling right before your period.   I felt pretty crappy for about the first year, and thought I'd need a hysterectomy.    I started taking an OTC progesterone cream, and that, I think, helped with my cycles, and now my ablation seems to be working just fine.   I still have a period - but a light one that only lasts three days.   I'm 50, though, so I imagine that my period days are numbered!

I know!  I had my PCPorder my labs and send them to me.  He never advised me on them thinking that my surgeon was.  I knew the iron was **** and should have addressed it then, but thought I'd up the Proferrin to 2 a day, every day and see what happens.  (You know they say hindsight is 20/20 and all......)

My GYN called me back and is going to see me this afternoon and do more bloodwork today and will get the results Monday (they do it in house) and can order the infusion for me on Monday.  Hopefully that means I can get it done before I leave on Saturday (next week).

I'm a dumbass for waiting so long.  Live and learn!

I was a total iron 33 - ferritin 11 ... self referred myself to a hema and he did the insurance approval for infusion.

It took them a week .... I had my first or 2 yesterday.    I got Feraheme www.feraheme.com/   nurse injects it in under 5 mins.   and you wait 30 to be sure no reaction.    Follow up does a week later and the doc thinks it will shoot me into a ferritin of 200 and hold me a year or so.

Thanks!  My GYN will see me today and get my new bloodwork on Monday (I'm kind of afraid to see how low it is now.) and then order the infusion for me, so it looks like I get to skip the hema?  I'll find out this afternoon and if I need a hema, I'll go ahead and call around today and see if I can get in asap next week.  I really don't want to go another 2 weeks (I'll be out of town for 2 weeks.)

Thanks!

Ablations are good but typically won't eliminate your periods. The goal is to thin the endometrial lining so that HEAVY periods cease and they become more regular. But they typically won't be gone.

Plus, depending on your body and the amount of edometrium damaged, it may not last until menopause.

This is one time I'm thankful for my hysterectomy!

I had 5 Venofer IV push infusions in July.  My PCP ordered the infusions for me.  I was able to get in the same week he faxed the order to our local hospital.  After 72 hours I was feeling much better.

I bet you are exhausted, your numbers are lower than I had and I felt tired constantly.  I can't wait to get my labs drawn again in Sept. to see where I'm at now.

Hope you can be infused soon, it makes a world of difference.

I saw the GYN today and he agrees with the plan for infusion(s) and an ablation.  They did the bloodwork for the iron levels there in the office and the results will be in on Monday.  Then he will call me with the referral to the hospital (right next door) for the infusion.  He says I should have no issue getting it next week before I leave.

I go in for an ultrasound of the uterus in September before the ablation.  Then if all looks well, we'll schedule that.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Hey Guys, I had the Venofer Iron infusions, I hink I had about 4 but they didnt really raise my levels that well to be honest. I am going to go back and ask for the injection that Tom had - I think it will be much more effective and should help with my horrid RLS too! In the meantime I will up the Proferrin to 2 a day and see if that helps me.

Hope you get all this taken care of Tess, feel better soon honey!

In case anyone is interested, my iron is still complete **** (not that I had any doubts) and I go to my local hospital tomorrow for an infusion.  (How's that for getting in fast?  Appointment on Friday, results of bloodwork on Monday, infusion on Tuesday!)

I think they said Venofar or something like that.  I go back on 9/8 (will be out of town for 2 weeks starting next week) and I guess I'll get levels checked again to see if I need another infusion to bring me up even more.

I hope this first one helps me feel better.  I'm ******g exhausted beyond belief all the time now and want to have some energy on vacation.

Thanks for your replies.  I'll let you guys know how it all goes.
