Quetion about Celebrate ENS
Has anyone tried Celebrate ENS drink mix right after surgery? I took my nutritional classes last week and was told that it contains everything that we DS'ers need with the exception of iron. When I say everything we need I mean in the way of supplements, I will still try to eat they things they want me to eat. I think it is 2 of the stick packs a day to meet our requirements. It costs about $45 for a months supply so if I am correct with the dose that is not to bad of a price.

I have attended 7 DS support group meetings and read a lot here and know that vitamins right after the surgery are hard to get down and so are some of the protein shakes. Celebrate also makes the ENS Protein shakes but i think the drink mixes may go down easier at first.
I am wondering if this would be a better way to get my protein and vitamins in right after surgery?? Two 12oz drinks would take care of all of my protein and vitamin requirements (except for iron) and satisfy some of my water intake requirements! Of course I will have the recommended vitamins on hand just incase I can't stand the drink mixes.............
Has anyone tried these drink mixes and what was your favorite flavor?

My surgeon recommended the Celebrate chewable multi w/ADEK after surgery as well as the chewable Iron w/C. I bought the Celebrate ENS vanilla cake batter flavor a couple of weeks ago thinking "ohhhhh... cake batter, that's gotta be good." It was not good. No way would I have licked that off a beater as a kid.
If everything we needed except iron was in those sticks than the DS would probably be more common. We need a full regimen of vitamins. Do not screw with this you will regret it. our vitamin intake isn't something to take lightly. Without the proper vitamins and minerals we risk being severely sick and even death.
Just from glancing at the nutrition facts I can promise you that you wont get anywhere near enough calcium among other things.

As far as everything else, once your post op protein and everything else is the least of your worries, first start with some simple water, jello, and broth once your getting in 64 oz a day you can work on your protein next and THEN your supplements. It takes a few weeks before you'll be ready for much.

Like you said, he probably won't be ready to start a routine like Vitalady's for a few weeks so taking a couple of chewable ADEK and/or an ENS shake or two per day until then will give him at least some vitamins. Not what he will need in the long run, but in the short-term I think that some is better than none.
But I agree, once you're ready to start full supplementation definitely check out Vitalady. I ordered the DS three month starter kit and was pretty overwhelmed with what I received... and that was after editing the recommended kit because I'm sticking with my Double X multi-vitamin that I've been taking for years.

Hog wash. No multi vitamin has everything you will need. Multi-vitamins are the BASIS or FOUNDATION for the supplements you will need to take for the rest of your life.
This is the minimum plan that we recommend people work up to during the first weeks after surgery:

There is no way to judge what you will be able to tolerate taste wise immediately after surgery. The only thing that seems to hold true is that your taste WILL change from pre surgery to post surgery.
Personally I would just start with the smaller capsules of Vita Lady's plan and the Centrum chewable mutli vitamin and work your way from there. If you find by 3-4 weeks out that you still can't do the larger pills (like Calcium) then there are other options for that.
Immediately after surgery everything tasted horrible to me and my only concern during the first month was getting my fluids in. I don't think I took ANY vitamins except some nasty Batiatric Advantage Calcium Chews (which gave me gas****il I was a month out.
