I am looking to have a revision from RNY to DS. Does anyone know of any surgeons in Connecticut who do this type? If so your experience and was it successful?

Has anyone been approved for revision by Tricare Prime? If so, what were the requirements?

There are only a handful of surgeons in the country that do RNY to DS revisions.  You will have to travel to have this done.  There are also a couple out of the country (Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Canada).  I am not aware of anyone in Connecticut that does this.

Please go to dsfacts.com and read here.  Research, research, research.  You can find vetted surgeons there.

I am a newbie, 3 weeks out from RNY to DS revision with Dr. Keshishian in California (I live in Ohio).  It is a very complex surgery that should only be done by very experienced surgeons.

Just a question for you. I was looking at a Dr. Greenbaum in NJ; he is 4 hours away. So the question, did you have to go to CA to do all the pre op or did you do it locally and have it sent? I am just wondering how many trips to CA you made? I have two small children, work full time and school full time I could not make that drive all the time.

I only made one trip to CA.  Dr. Keshishian's office worked with my PCP and I to submit the necessary paperwork, tests, evaluations, etc.

Once I was approved, I had my consultation with him one day, did my surgical preop stuff the next and then had my surgery.  I stayed there about 10 days before being released to come home.

Revision surgeons are accustomed to traveling patients, and I believe most of them have an "out of town" program.  Dr. K's information is posted on his website in his patient handbook on dssurgery.com.  I only have experience with his procedure, so he's the only surgeon I can speak to with my own experience.

I had revision with Dr. Keshishian last December and traveled from Oklahoma to California. All the preop stuff was done on the phone and through my PCP. I spent about 10 days in CA for surgery and the early postop time and my PCP has followed me since then.

I have kept on contact with Dr. K by email and phone and went out for a visit at 6 months and plan to go at a year.

Traveling for surgery is pretty common. It's a hassle but doable.

Good Morning....
I am a revision from Lapband to DS and I am having surgery in NYC with DR Roslin.  He does do the RNY to DS revision on a case by case basis and it may be worth looking into... They are also on DSFacts.com... My surgery is scheduled on Tuesday the 16th... and I live in CT... about 10 minutes outside of Hartford....Not sure about your insurance I have BCBS...
Good Luck with your research!

There are few surgeons who do a genuine RNY to DS revision. The closest for you would be Dr. Roslin in NY and Dr. Gagner in Montreal. Dr. Greenbaum seems to have cut back on this type of revision. Other options are Dr. Keshishian and Dr. Rabkin, both in CA.
There is to my knowledge no one in Conn doing even a virgin DS, let alone a RNY to DS revision.

I found a surgeon in Stamford CT that does the revision to DS. Dr. Davis at Stamford Hospital. Other than that I am trying to figure out the insurance thing. From what I have read on here, Tricare covers RNY or Band. So I am hoping someone who was either revised to DS or had a DS covered by Tricare will respond here!

I've been on this forum over 5 years and have never heard of this surgeon, even for a virgin DS. I would be very, very careful about this - there are some surgeons saying they do something that will be "just like a DS", or words to that effect, when where they really do is ERNY, meaning extended RNY. The pouch is left as is, and the intestinal part is altered to provide more malabsorption. This fails to address any pouch problems of RNY and creates new problems with malabsorption.
This guy may be a good surgeon at what he does, but if he has ever done a DS it's news to me. And RNY to DS revision - forget it!
