Help me with my iron, please...

I currently take 2 Proferrin Fortes a day and my ferritin is ****ty and my folate is too high.  I don't want to up it to 3 a day.

So, I think what I need to do is add in some of vitalady's tender iron, right?  How many do you recommend starting with and when should I take it?

Thanks!

Can you do iron infusions? That seems to be one of the most effective ways of getting iron up. I'm having some before my surgery because I'm low.

That's all of the advice I've got since I'm pre op.

If you want to add the Tender capsules start with 1 a day for a few days, add the second for a few more days until you get all 5 capsules down as a routine. I do this with 1 Proferrin ES and the combo brought my iron markers up nicely. I take the Tender iron in the afternoons away from all the other vitamins and the Proferrin at bedtime (split into pieces).

I just use the Proferrin ES Vitalady carries. It doesn't contain folate like the prescription. I think Shani has been able to get her doc to give her a prescription for the Proferrin Forte.

So work my way up to 5 a day?  Can I take all 5 at once?  I assume all the old iron rules apply (that I've kind of forgotten since taking Proferrin)????  Take with C and away from calcium and zinc?

Thanks!

The new Tender iron capsules come with C already in them. I would add the Tender slowly over a couple of weeks to get to all 5. Maybe it was me but when I tried to take the entire dose the first day it made me nauseous.  Tender you have to keep separate from other vites, dairy, calcium, whole wheat, caffeine, and eggs. It's fine to take the Tender with a little fruit to have something on your stomach.

I've been on tender iron, and poly-sach iron, and my ferritin just keeps creeping down, ever so slowly. I've been thinking about ditching those and trying iron bisglycinate, or Proferrin.

I'm currently on 4 of the tender iron (60mg each), and 2 of the poly-sach, so maybe I'm just not taking enough, but I'm coming back here in hopes of hearing what is working for others.

The combo of Tender and poly saccharides didn't work well for me either. Try dropping the poly and adding a couple of Proferrin but keep the Tender.
