What kept you going in the months before your surgery?

I decided to be proactive and since I was recording my food anyway for my PCP's nurse (not an insurance requirement - just his) on CalorieKing; I went in yesterday and changed the protein requirement way up and carb way down.  I have always done better on this type diet.  We don't have any kids and my husband wants to lose weight so we have purged our house of high-carb snacks.  MAybe I'll actually lose some weight during this 6 month period - also I read on someone's account that folks with my BMI range (mid-50's) do better in surgery if they can lose some before the surgery......don't some surgeons require you to lose some in the month before surgery to get some of the fat off your liver or am I way off on that??  I do have fatty liver syndrome.
