I'm not sure I'd call my BFF either 'young'---he's 47---or 'normal'---he AIN'T---but he had his out about three years ago and still eats fried EVERYTHING.

I really think this is one of those YMMV things.

I had mine out 3 months after my daughter was born.  It was done outpatient and lap.  I had been having issues prior to becming pregnant, and they did all the requisite testing, but never found stones or severe inadequacy so they wouldn't take it.  WELL, my pregnancy was MISERABLE and I had attacks several days a week!  It was so bad, they almost took the gall bladder while I was pregnant (but I refused, I was already a high risk pregnancy and on blood thinners...).  Once it was out, I had no food intolerances.  For the first month or so, high fat meals would cause bathroom urgency and loose stools, but after my body adjusted, they were no longer an issue.

In any case, don't assume that having the GB out will resolve the issue...  I'm actually still awake tonight because I'm having another "no gall bladder, gall bladder attack".  You can still have issues with bile duck blockages, sludge, stones, biliary tract spasms, and a disorder called Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction.

For ME- the triggers seemed to be related to, pre-removal: regular Coke and high fat meals.  Post-removal I would only have a random issue here and there, OR every time I was given certain narcotic pain meds (Dilaudid or Morphine), which I finally made the connection to after my DS when I was on the Morphine pump, boy was THAT miserable.  Tonight, I have NO CLUE what spurred this one, and I really hope this isn't going to become a regular deal again...

In any case, I hope her surgery goes well and she is MUCH more comfortable soon!  It's quite a routine deal, and usually outpatient.  I certainly know the mama bear worry though, so hugs to you for that!

Thanks so much Bean.  I've done her homework and found a surgeon so hopefully we can get this show on the road.

Then on to her next issue...recurring UTIs (2-5 a year for years now).  I want her to see a urologist.
