I think I "got" my answer Fri afternoon
I saw the NP Friday morning & she scheduled the biopsy for me while I was there. I left at 8:45. She came back right before I left to tell me that she wanted to talk to Anis (my heme guy & he is an oncologist) quick before I left to ask if he wanted to order any more imaging stuff, but asked for my cell # in case I had left before she got his answer. I saw her talking to him on my way out.
She called me back at 5 hours later to tell me that he wanted to go ahead & order a CT scan of my neck & a PT scan right away so that he'll have all the info he needs for my f/u appt with him on Fri, Aug 4th that was scheduled to go over the results of the original CT scan of my abdomen & pelvis, along with a chest scan. My guess is she talked to him & he decided to pull the results of the CT scan (it's in the same hospital system, he has electronic access) & chest xray, see what it said to guide him in his decision on whether to order more imaging.
He ordered the abd/pelvis CT scan b/c I had a sore spot on the right lower rib portion, which has grown a lot worse in the wk & 1/2 since I saw him. The left side is now tender when you press on my mid/lower ribs (which is where your spleen).
So. Isn't it that practice guidelines call for a PT scan either when you get a biopsy back or you have very strong clinical proof that it's indicated? I'm guessing he didn't like the results of the CT scan & possibly chest scan that he had ordered . . . given the nightsweats, erractic fever (I actually had it when I was there on Fri), general fatigue, anemia of chronic disease, an ESR of 95, a CRP of 78.5, exercise-induced shortness of breath, masses that are on the supraclavicular node (which has a high rate of malignancy), and I've been losing weight again . . . I guess that's his reasoning for going ahead & ordering everything left so that we can have the cell type, stage, & discuss treatment options during the f/u.
Remember, this was the doctor that, 1.5 wks ago told me that he takes a conservative approach & rules out the most obvious first (that he thought I was iron-deficient anemic).
Yeah, I personally am 99% convinced. It's what makes sense & everything else has been ruled out.
If I get my biopsy results early, from the surgeon, then I will post, otherwise I will post after my f/u appt on 8/5.
