Ds people HAVE to eat tons of meat

My NUT told me that I can try some turkey kielbasa on the 4th if I can find it, as long as I remove the casing. I'm hoping I can eat it. I may cry if I'm not able to find it at the grocery store.

Are you having trouble digesting protein other than turkey? If so that's not a bad substitute if you can't tolerate pork yet. There's a polish butcher near me that smokes their own pork kovbasa, evil I tell you, pure evil.

My NUT said to avoid beef & por****il six weeks out. I'm not quite three, but I've been harrassing her about turkey substitutes. She said I could start eating fish, seafood and turkey brats or kielbasa next Monday. I told her I want to grill on the 4th, but not if I can't eat any of it. If I have to suffer the family will suffer too. Or they can go to a BBQ joint. (My daughter will have her Morningstar Farms fake BBQ ribs, as usual. They aren't too bad, but certainly not nearly as good as REAL MEAT.)

I think I want to get a smoker. I keep looking at them, but haven't broken down and bought one yet. I bet smoked kielbasa is amazing.

Well, once you get the green light for pork it's going to taste sooooooo good.

A smoker is a great idea, if you can't find smoked pork kovbasa you'll be able to make it yourself! Then there's smoked fish, omg dat is good stuff!

There's supposed to be a great kielbasa place in Hamtramck.

Geez oh petes - they'd probably kick me out of the DS program if I were a DS'er nowadays, LOL.

She must be having you avoid it because of the fat content, assuming it will give you diarrhea.    Now, I could assume that maybe some kielbasa might give you oil slicks, but I was certainly eating bacon, steak, and burger well before six weeks out.     I do recall that burger gave me problems unless it was in gravy, spaghetti sauce or taco meat.

REAL BACON, Julie? Not turkey bacon? (I hate turkey bacon, btw. I wouldn't eat that even if the NUT OKed it. I'd eat my kids Morningstar Farms fake bacon before I'd eat turkey bacon.)

I'll probably dream about bacon tonight.

She's an idiot.

A "ton" of meat? You need around 100 grams of animal source protein per day. Here's how I typically get it:

1st breakfast: 20 prepackaged Greek yogurts = 25 grams

2nd breakfast: 6-7 slices of bacon = 20 grams

Lunch: yesterday I had egg salad from three eggs = 20 grams

Snack: cubed cheese, usually a good 4 oz. or so = 25+ grams

Supper: yesterday was a truly lovely burger pattied, seasoned and grilled by my own loving hands, started out right around 7 oz. raw, so at least 5 oz. cooked = 35+ grams

Total: 125 grams of protein all from food.

Because I am kicking up my protein intake due to saggy lab results, I also had a XAPP protein drink for 40 grams. Full total: 165 grams of protein.

Sound like "a ton" of meat to you? Nah, I didn't think so.

Regarding on the potty "all the time": Well, according to what I know about a healthy poop life, once a day is a good thing. I am prone to constipation if I don't make darned sure I consume a lot of fat. I do this by using all full fat foods and eschewing anything "low fat."  Heavy cream in my tea, lots of butter on my toast, roast my veggies in olive oil, fabulous full fat cheeses, well marbled meats, etc. I count myself fortunate if I go once a day.

If I get behind on the fat, I get backed up. Then once I get everything sufficiently greased, I might go five times that day until my gut says it's properly cleaned out. Then it's back to the daily dump.

Now, if you live in a delusional world where pooping more than once a week is evil, I guess that might be "all the time." *g*

More vitamin deficiencies than all the other surgeries? Hmmm, go talk to Beth aka Melting Mama and Andrea Ullberg on the RNY board about RNY micronutrient issues.

I don't know what "fighting" deficiencies looks like. I take a handful of supplements twice a day, a five-pill batch once a day, and two two-pill quick glugs two more times somewhere in the course of the day. I'm about to go for two doctor visits a couple days apart for iron infusions, something that zillions of American women have to get done sometime during this life. Oh, and a third visit for a vitamin D injection and maybe a followup sometime in the next couple months.

Now, let's compare that to 19 prescription medications a day, living tethered to an oxygen hose 24/7, minimum of four insulin shots a day, weekly lab visits to titrate Coumadin levels, planning my funeral, being unable to walk down the street.......

....Oh pardon me, I just got distracted by thoughts of the T-bones I'm going to grill for dinner tonight. Nope, no comparison whatsoever.

Newsflash for your moron friend: "sleeve on top, RNY on bottom" IS IN ESSENCE A DUODENAL SWITCH. Except that we get a LONG TERM EFFECTIVE intestinal restructuring, unlike her piece of crap where the caloric malabsorption is gone in under two years but her micronutrient malabsorption will get nothing but WORSE over time.

Gawd, the stupidity astounds me.
