Hey, old timer here with some questions.....

Mary, look at you sweet thing!  Wow, your stats are amazing!

Gagner is in Canada....I received an email sometime ago that he was relocating.  Think I will look for the new addi and ask his opinion.

I'm acting out of frustration at this point and need to take a deep breath.  I know Lyrica is partly responsible for the weight gain..and I'm trying to wean off the Lyrica to see if it is hindering weight loss.  So many questions.....

You don't say what your current BMI is and whether you have any c-morbids.  I would think you would have to qualify for any WLS to qualify for the switch at this point.

There is no free ride.  Not for me anyway.  I am only 22 months out and I feel that my stomach has stretched (I can eat very large amounts) and my "window" has closed.  I have to eat low carb or I gain.  Now granted, I am in the middle of "normal" so I could gain quite a bit and still be a "normal" BMI but to stay at this size where I am happy and comfortable (size 4-6) I can't eat very many carbs.  I'm talking around 75 to maintain.

And also consider that with the switch MAY come some food intolerances.  For me that is gluten..so no wheat or flour products at all, lactose, and sugar alcohols.  YMMV.

Hi Becky and ya just burst my bubble!   I just might be looking for a free ride.

I honestly was under the impression, from the research I did back in 2005/6 and the posts/responses from many DSers back then, that one could eat as then wish, without restriction, and still be able to lose/maintain because of how the food was channeled in the body.  (I know, not a very scientific explanation!!)

From responses to my post, I see that is not the case and one must be mindful of what they are eating.

Thanks for your input!!!

I'm a few years out and have to watch what I eat fairly closely or I can gain easily. If I just eat without a care in the world, I will gain. The DS, as wonderful as it is is not a free license to eat whatever and whenever you want. It has to be maintained too. Granted, it's far easier than without the surgery to lose those additional pounds but it is still something you have to watch. As much as I love my DS, I don't think you'll get that "magic" you seem to think you'll get with the DS.

I think you should keep your VSG, it'll be a hard sell to get the DS, and just make it work for you. Yes you have to eat right but you would no matter what. No surgery is a free ride.

Thank you for your straight forward response.  Your response, and others here too, have made me realize that I am looking for the 'magic' that I believed the DS would provide.

No sure why, but back in 2005/6 most DSers spoke of how they could eat whatever they chose and still lost.....it was the reason I chose the DS.  I thought it was to the answer to not having to figure out carbs, calories, fat, grams, points......  I understood that your body did not absorb the calories....hmmm.

Perhaps you're right about keeping the sleeve and trying to figure out if the Lyrica is making me stall in trying to get the weight gain off.

Much thanks!!!!  and All the Best!!!

To clarify,  I have a 10 pound bounce area. If I eat anything and everything I want I gain in that 10 pound range. I have not gone OUT of that range since I reached goal. That is also a clothing size for me. If I gain up to that point my clothes start to fit poorly. If I'm below that range my clothes fit perfectly. It's sort of my scale. :)

There is magic in the surgery, don't get me wrong, but it's not a get out of jail free card for life. ;)
