OT-Vites and supplements for broken bones healing
up to 10,000 mg of Vitamin C
Magnesium - more important that calcium. Don't use magnesium oxide. Magnesium Taurinate (vitacost) is best and won't give you diarrhea.
Vitamin D. In the short term larger doses than what the package says, are safe.
Silica, find one that is the extract of horsetail. Or splurge on that Patrick Flanagan product is it called "Mega-H"?
Upping milk or calcium won't make much of a difference, since u are pre-op and still absorbing normally. It may actually work in reverse. Or at least that's what I've read, don't quote me on any of this, YMMV.
I would agree with the C and D and Magnesium, don't know about the Silica, never used it before.
I'll Google some more and see what I can find.

I'm so sorry about your broken foot. I hope you and the grand baby are ok beyond that.
I think Vitalady's pre-op advice is pretty good in your case too. I might add boron to the calcium, magnesium and D3.
ETA: and vitamin K2 as well.

For pre-ops or those who just wish to lose a few lbs.
One 30g protein supplement (made with powder + water) per day for 3 days or so, then move up to 2 drinks, then 3 if you have time, then 4 for a total of 120g.
One complete multi vitamin/mineral, such as Centrum + 1500 mg calcium citrate w/D + 5,000 IU vitamin D3.
* One polysaccharide iron OR 6 Tender Iron + *vitamin C, but not more than 4000mg of C a day.
* Iron is taken with vitamin C only. No dairy, caffeine, egg or whole grain foods. No other vitamins, minerals or meds. For an intact person, the space between is 2 hours. For a person with a shortened gut, 1 hour either side is fine. I like to see iron taken with a fruit or veggie to line the pouch/stomach and to generate some friendly acid for the iron.

Sorry to hear about your broken foot. I am too recovering from fx knee and wrist. I know I have gotten some great advise from the board. I am post op and have changed how I take my calciuim seperate from my other vits, added boron and just yesterday ordered strontium for bone health. Eight weeks with little weight bearing has given me cabin fever! My Ortho has been great support and doesn't flinch with my mega-doses of vits and minerals. Hopefully this will not delay your surgical date. Keep us posted.
