Does the DS help Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy?

Peripheral nerve damage is usually considered to be permanent.  However, my H did have some improvement in his feet.  Considerable, really.

So don't think it will go away but don't give up all hope either.  And once the diabetes goes away, at least it won't get worse!

I think stopping the progression is a worthwhile goal.  Especially for someone in their early 50s with a lot of years (hopefully) left.

I have a close friend with painful neuropathy in her feet & legs as well as hands and arms and even tho the gastric bypass reversed her diabetes she still has to live with the nerve damage previously done by the diabetes. It has been 6 years since her surgery.

About a year or so prior to by DS I had begun to get occassional numbness and tingling in my hands.  Never had it diagnosed.  Now it is at least 95% gone.   I took  SL B12   (methyl)  -  I now have high levels.

Thanks Jenny.  We have a diagnosis of diabetic neuropathy.  I wi**** was something that could be reversed.  But at least if she can get the DS she can stop the progression.

Becky,

I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy before my DS surgery. However, it was NOT caused as a complication of diabetes.

My neuropathy was a mild compared to what my wife (southernlady5464) had at her worst.

Since my DS surgery, my neuropathy has not gotten worse. It hasn't gotten better either.

I hope your friend gets the DS.

Becky, I WISH the beast of PN had a cure but at this point in time, I will be glad of it not progressing any further.

My worst years were 1999-2003 just after my diagnosis and getting my blood sugars under tight control. Since 2003, it has begun to ease compared to before. Then about 2 years ago, my blood sugars started going up regardless of what I did. Since surgery I have come off my PN med cause it's so expensive and we'd rather buy vitamins.

And you know, except for a few days here and there, the pain isn't something I can't live with. So it is healing but I've been under tight blood sugar control for almost 12 years. That makes a HUGE difference.

Liz, wow, sounds like maybe the PN is getting better, since you are able to tolerate it without any meds.  I sure hope so!  Are you off diabetes meds since your DS?
