Another Surgery before my DS question......

I am scheduled to have knee surgery next week, nothing major just a torn meniscus that they are going to scope. The day that I got home from scheduling this surgery I was notified that I had been approved for DS and that they would be calling soon to schedule me in. By talking to others it looks like I may be 3 months away from getting switched so my question is about the anesthesia. There will not be a problem getting the two surgeries within 2-3 months of each other will there? I don't want to get the knee surgery and then be told that I need to wait 6 months or something like that!

without knowing any health information, generally no, I had 3 major abdominal surgeries last year within a 6 month period.  people have surgeries back to back from one day to the next....

Thanks, this is all new to me. Although I am 63 years old, I have spent only one night in a hospital. That was for a sleep study. I have been lucky and never had any surgeries at all so the whole anesthesia thing will be a new experience to me!

I'm not a medical person, nor did I sleep in a Holiday Inn last night, but the flag that came up for me was the one that says you should be able to walk to heal.  I'd talk to your DS surgeon and get input and follow that advice.  You want the best outcomes for both surgeries!  Good luck to ya,
Cindy

Thanks, I am walking now and should be OK after the surgery. The Sergeon says i should be back to normal in 3 to 6 weeks.

Well, rock on then!  I did four rounds of plastics, about 1 surgery every 3 months last year and did OK.  You'll do nicely with all of your surgeries now too.  Go for it!
That said, listen to your body signals.  Your primary care doc and both your surgeons are your best friends now and will help you manage any problems afterwards.  Good luck.

Assuming your health is good enough for general anesthesia and you have no problems, there would usually be no issue. This is an ask-your-docs question, though, for good measure.

Any issue with anesthesia or recovery could change this a lot, however.

Band to DS

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!
