I'd do it every day for a couple of months then go for a re-draw to see how much you've improved.  If there is a marked improvement but you're still not in range I'd keep going for another couple of months.  The idea is to elevate your level to a point where a gradual tapering doesn't dent your armor at all.

Hey Kirmy,

Can you tell me more about rectal administration? Is there a specific iron salt you should use? Any adverse events? Thanks!

I'd just use Vitalady's tender iron caps (are they capsules not had to use any yet) !  That's about as technical as I get.  You see rectal absorption is far more effective than oral due to missing out the absorption and distribution via the portal vein than the liver etc etc  this way it goes straight into the blood stream and binds to proteins and gets to work.

I suppose adverse events would be ****ting yourself silly or giving your rectum a chemical burn if you started sticking toxic substances up there.  Also you would have to be very careful monitoring your doses as this means you're absorbing almost all of the drug not a percentage like before.  I'd have labs done at one month than three just to watch what your other values are doing especially your liver function as you can have too much of a good thing.   God knows many junkies and coke heads can't be wrong!!

You already know I'm preop so I have zero advice.  But I did want to say I wish you the best with this.  I think what means most to me is that you are actually having an issue.  Not that I wish any issues on you but your one of the OH members I look up to and to see that sometimes things can go wrong reminds me once again that everybody on here is indeed human, even the great ones.  It also shows us newbies that those problems we run into can be handled and to keep our chin up.  I learned the hard way that you might be a tough cookie sometimes but you have the experience and know how to back it up.

on a side note..... what can be taken rectally? do people really do this and why?

Oh yeah, rectal dosing of medications is LOTS more common in many countries than in the USA. Bleh. Tried it (when I lived in Germany and do NOT like it. Phooey. Gimme needles instead.

I'm not saying this to offend anyone because Goodness only knows that I'm totally new to all of this.

My mouth is on the floor.  People voluntarily shove medicine up their ass on a daily basis......
I can see in case of an emergency.... But yeah, um I'd have a hard time with it too....

Only for stuff going IN that could go elsewhere. Now, the way the French do it, I can handle.

I'm interested in what you find out about Vitamin D injection.
That is one of the things I've been fighting all along (low leve).
