Please talk to this exercise hold-out. What do you do for exercise?
If you can't find someone to go with you, you should try one of the workout classes. You will meet people there that will help keep you coming back. I went to pilates classes at my gym a few years ago and found that I was much better about working out because I wanted to see the people that I met there.
Good luck

Hey girl! As you may have read on my FB page, I started going to the gym last week. TALK to people in your area. You want to find the place that is most comfortable for you. I am lucky in that I used to be 'Nanny' to the owners baby. They don't put up with slamming weights, cussing, loud music annoying and unattended kids. He is also working as my personal trainer, so I've gotten a wonderful opportunity handed to me. I do 15 minutes on the treadmill then we do the circuit and exercise ball. After 15 reps on a machine, I do 15 crunches on the big red ball. I do 3 sets of the circuit and then do maybe 20-30 minutes back on the treadmill, or my now famous 10 minutes on the elliptical!!! The members are all so wonderful and have the common goal of being healthy. Everyone speaks to everyone, whether they know you or not....It's a great place for me to be. Give me sweat over snot any damn day!
I'm still pre-op but I have started walking on the treadmill every morning. I'm up to 2 miles in 40 minutes and am working to shorten that time. I hate it *every single time* I get on it, but I do little mind tricks to keep me going. I tell myself I'll take a break when I've done 1/4 mile, then when I approach that, I tell myself I'll take a break when I've burned xx amount of calories, and so on. Inevitably, I manage to last until the end, and then I feel really good and proud of myself that I stuck it out. It's really giving me a positive boost to the day, it must be those endorphins.
The treadmill is in our office, so I put some TV show on and watch that while I walk, it makes the time go by a lot faster.

Hey Miss Becky!
It's been a long time! I see your pup on facebook, though...LOL...what a rascal!
LIfting weight does help increase bone density---my best friend has a degree in excercise and sports science for UF---she confirmed this over and over--this is one of the best things you can do for your bones, as you become older!
As for joining a gym, I don't know if they have "shapes" or "curves" up in your neck of the woods.....it a womens only fitness center.....just a thought!

For me, whenever I've wanted to start exercising, getting a personal trainer made the difference. For the sheer fact of the matter that if I didn't show up, I was still charged the $$ made me get myself to the gym... That is certainly an expense though, so it's not for everyone.
Another thing I had practiced -- write down your fitness goals for the week. One of the first weeks I did this, I wrote, "Stand on the treadmill for 5 minutes." Up, all that was required was STANDING. Not turning it on, or doing anything. After about 4 minutes I realized that indeed, I could walk for a minute and not die. So I did. And that started me on a path of using the treadmill. I agree with one of the above posters -- sometimes it's just mental games we play with ourselves...
Two other things that have worked - fast paced music on my ipod and reading weight-loss stories of encouragement (there are some books out there on amazon). Both helped me along. That, and ben gay in the beginning... :)
