1) Who was your surgeon?

2) Who was your surgeon?

3) Who was your surgeon?
(WE NEED TO KNOW).

4) You need protein as well as fluids- ditto what others said on how much fluid you need. Drink isopure for some extra protein and if you can find a good protein shake low in sugar start using it- I recommend sytrax matrix. Early pre op just get as much protein as you can, eventually work your way up to 80-100grams.

5) What nutrition instructions were you given before discharge? Were you told anything?

You're only one week out from surgery. You don't need, and probably shouldn't eat anything at this point. As everyone has mentioned, liquids, liquids, liquids. Sip constantly until you have managed to consume at least 64oz/day. Nothing else matters at this point.

Since, it is considered a clear liquid, try some sugar free Jello if you feel the need for something solid in your stomach. Be prepared for only a couple of teaspoons filling you up. When you're hungry again in an hour or two, have another couple of teaspoons. Get used to that being your food intake limit for awhile.

If you feel ready, you can move on to other mushy foods: yogurt, chili, refried beans, cottage cheese, and the like. Again, don't expect to be able to consume more than a few teaspoons at a time.

Of course you feel awful. This is entirely normal. You were just hit by a Mack truck. Little by little, it does get better, though. Hang in there!

thank you all for the encouraging words. i did have my surgery in dallas by dr wade barker. i just feel as if he was very interested in receiving the 23800.00 and then just kinda threw me away.. he said i didnt need any nutritional counseling because of all my prior weightloss surgeries. i did receive a booklet the day before surgery about nutritional supplements and vitamins but the horrible nurses at the hospital ruined with with spilling my grape juice on it.. tomorrow is my follow up to get all my staples out.. i am still very upset that he couldnt make the time to see me in the hospital not even once and when he did the EGD he must have been pretty rough because i have 2deep gashes in my mouth that are ***** and very painful.( i have had many egd's and that has never happened) my hospital stay was at a facililty that he has part ownership of ..(FOREST PARK MEDICAL CENTER)  and they are AWFUL.. they treat the patients awful.. my neighbor across the hall was treated much worse than me and he actually broke down and cried several times..they were making references to the fact that if we had been walking before we had surgery that we wouldnt have needed surgery in the first place...just awful awful awful....i am a pediatric nurse and never in my wildness days have i ever seen such awful treatment by such a combined group of people...they need someone to go in and give them some lessons about compassion and empathy because i sincereley think everyone of those nurses skipped that class in school..
i am drinking water with crystal light and drinking more that 64oz a day... i feel very parched still like im dehydrated so i just keep drinking away.. i am running a low grade temp but i do believe its from the infection i have brewing in these gashes in my mouth.. i did drink some creamy tomato soup and it was ok.. the vitamins are making me nauseous at this point so im just gonna wait a little longer on them... im not sure how to do all this computer stuff to make a page so please excuse my horribly done post...thank you all for the encouragement..

I kinda figured it was him, too. We've heard some horror stories and I'm awfully sorry we have to add yours to the list. Here's hoping this is as bad as it gets and you'll be all uphill from here! Do get that infection treated ASAP. Don't wait. That could get bad in a hurry. There's no danger of drinking too much, so keep on drinking! Very good that you're getting in so much.

Don't worry about the vites. Those will come with time.

Are you on Facebook? There is a nutritional matters group that might be helpful for you there. If you get a Facebook account and tell me what your name is on Facebook I'll see that you get added.

You will need someone to help you with your followup, since it's obvious you're not going to get it from that hellhole. The people who are more local can help hook you up with competent medical care.

I'm not a medical pro by any means, but I am concerned that you might be self diagnosing by assuming your temp is from your mouth thing. Please don't make such assumptions. Get seen and evaluated, and don't take no for an answer. Also, don't dick around with that office for days or weeks on end if you are not getting good quality care. Go elsewhere. I know it's hard to advocate for yourself when you are feeling awful, but it's SO important.

Don't worry about computer skills. Just respond once in a while (or start a new thread) so we know you haven't developed a bad problem and landed in the hospital, okay? We worry a lot here.

I'm so so sorry that this all happened to you!

It sounds like Forest Park is going downhill, or is very inconsistent depending on who is working the shifts. I was at Forest Park for my DS with Dr. Stewart last December and had the opposite experience. It does not sound like they have the same staff wokring there from 6 months ago. I am so very sorry :( Once you are more recovered, please complain to the hospital's powers that be , it may be possible that the higher-ups don't know what's going on.

Eliz is right about getting the fever checked out, it may not be a little thing, but if does turn out to be just a teeny fever I wouldn't be shy to ask for antibiotics just to be safe since you're so early post op and you don't need recovery to be any harder than it already is.

Definately wait on the vitamins, it took me well over a month before I was able to swallow vitamins without feeling like I was kicked in the stomach by a mule! Bariatric advantage has some chewable Multi + AEDK vitamins that aren't so bad tasting. I actually got a ton of free samples of the vitamins from Forest Park - they had a bit of a "care package" with some samples of chewable vites, calcium chews, and protein shakes (enough to use  for a week or two)- Did they give you one of those care packages at Forest Park, or have they stopped  giving those out? If you have one but haven't looked through it yet, open it up and see if there's any chewable vites are in there.

Since you're a nurse ... I'm assuming in the same area... is there an official body where you can report both the facility and those horrid offensive sows to?  Lawyer comes to mind too.. come to think of it.  Maybe if the ***** has to fork over a couple of thousand for a nuisance suit, he and his staff won't be such ********

Yeah, I would get an attorney that charges you nothing unless you win and go after this guy.  Get your $ back, and he has so much bad press already, your attorney won't have to go far to get this guy.  Just sorry you had to deal with him.  Revisions are very risky.  Take good care.  See Daryl Stewart for your after care.  Don't go back to this very bad guy!

And please, if you think you have an infection in your mouth from what that schmuck did to you go to the ER, have them give you a bag of iv fluids and get an antibiotic started.  Then, find a good lawyer and sue that idiots ass off!
