Replying for all who see.  Most of you know that I live just a few miles south of Joplin & work at the university in Joplin itself.

I have specifically heard this on our local news radio station.  Many of the staff immediately in this area worked an unbelievable amount of hours in the 2 wks following the tornado, many of whom have significant home structural damage or no home.  In additition to working their normal hrs, they are also trying to rebuild their lives . . . that's why outside volunteers from neighboring communities are really important.

One thing to note in addition to general volunteers going for cleanup help.  The article sites several things that you should have in terms of safety gear.  In addition to what it states, you should also wear a pair of goggles, ESPECIALLY if you wear contacts.  The asbestos will get into your eyes.  I've heard from several volunteers about this.  The particles are very fine and not good in the eyes!!

Thank you for posting, Ginger :)

Lisey,

You are so welcome. We read new information almost daily on Joplin and it is so heartbreaking. They stated in another interview that the devastation is just behind Katrina damage and in some areas as bad as Katrina.

It has destroy so many lives and I know you are dealing with tons from what info we are receiving. Hope you are getting some destress time as needed as well !

I am getting some time in for myself too.  My sister flew down to see me over Memorial weekend, or the wknd after the tornado.  My boyfriend has been "scheduled" to come stay with me for almost 3 wks & will be coming next wk Sat.  I'm very excited about that!!
