I use the Primal Defense Ultra.  I Order from Amazon on the subscription plan to keep the cost down.  I have never heard of an overgrowth of probiotics???? Your gut is always full of bacteria at all times.   Better to have more good bacteria than bad.

That was my understanding as well, better too much of the good than the bad, but I was told that too much good can be as bad as too much bad bacteria. Just like vitamin supplementation there is a fine line to walk, it just is a wider line and has more wiggle room than the supplementation line and is way more forgiving. Of course I am not a medical doctor, nor have I played one on TV so I generally defer to the pros when it comes to statements such as that. Though I know they are not infallible as well...

I have done a lot of reading over the years about probiotics, due to my family history of GI issues.  I have never read of over growth of probiotics.  It's just not logical to me, given the way our digestive system is dependent on bacteria.

I do wish you the best with this.  This is not a pleasant issue to deal with.   Start slowly when adding them back in.

Ill be doing my monthly Vitalady order tonight and will look into the probiotics again as I know I felt generally better on them from a digestive stand point.

Thanks all for the info, and keep it comming if you have it!

Quick question - when you did the probiotics, did you slowly work your way up to the full dose?  I seem to remember reading somewhere that if you start at the full recommended dose straight out of the gate, that it can cause issues.
Just a thought.

I don't recall jumping straight to the max dose as they were a little hard on my stomach as I recall. I'll be sure to ease myself back on to them though. Any other brand/type recommendations other than Primal Defense Ultra, that's what I'd bought previously...

Yes, you must go slowly!  In the beginning, it's a fight between good and evil.  This creates a lot of gas.

FYI - Splenda has a formula (I've only seen the 5 pound bag) that has probiotics added!

Probably not in significant enough amounts to fix the problem, but once under control, it might be a good thing to do!

There is a breath test that can be administered to Dx a bacterial overgrowth. I don't know much about it but I would ask your Dr.  If the test is positive, you may want to consider a course of Flagyl or some other antibiotic.  I agree with the use of probiotics but if the overgrowth has reached a certain stage you may need to treat with the antibiotics first.

The only other thing I can think of is your liquid intake.  You really need a minimum of 120 ounces of non-sweetened (artificial or otherwise) fluids a day to keep things running smooth in all areas. I have no idea how much of what you drink but thought I would throw it out there.  I have noticed that people think 64 ounces is enough, but that is just a new post-ops minimum.

Hope you get this resolved.
