Hi all, I'm just wondering if anyone here has or had catathrenia, and if the problem improved after significant weight loss?
I'm pretty sure I have sleep apnea too, but I haven't been tested for it yet. I will need to do that soon.
My catathrenia has gotten progressively worse over the years. As a teenager, I weighed in the low 200's and would only make very soft, quiet little moans as I slept. It wasn't bad at all.
It got worse as I got into my 20's and I'm not sure if it got worse due to getting older or due to getting bigger, or possibly both. I'm 29 now and from what my family tells me, I groan and make strange sounds, and it's often VERY LOUD. I've even been jolted awake from time to time from it myself.
I'm a single gal for now, so it's not a huge problem, but if I was to get into a relationship now that involved spending nights together, I would be too embarrassed to fall asleep beside him! It's much worse than snoring. At least snoring is a familiar sound. The sounds I make sound like they are coming from a different species altogether (lol)!
Any experience or advice with this would be appreciated!

I have it too. I'm wondering if I can use it to help build my case of insurance covering my sleeve. I think I'll go have a sleep study. I've woke myself up soon after I've fallen asleep, emitting this low load groan. I hold my breath first, and then exhale the groan. It's bizzare. My husband says I do it a lot.
