Blood Test Results Questions

Hi everyone. I recently had some labs done and have a few questions. I go to see my surgeon on June 1st to discuss it but wondered if anyone here might be able to shed some light.

Last August I had extremely low ferratin (11) and had infusions. This lab I'm pretty high. Here's my current readings:

Total Iron (130) good according to the scale provided
Iron Binding Capacity (249) low according to scale
% saturation (52) High according to the scale
Ferritin (371) high according to the scale

So last August my ferritin was 11 and now it's 371! The top of the range is 154 so I'm over 2x's that. Also, I had low Vitamin D levels and high calcium levels. Finally, the 4th area of concern was the PTH reading. Here's those numbers:

PTH Parathyroid Horomone - 71, high, range is 10-65
Calcium - 9.4
Vitamin D, 25 HT total - 28 (low)

Also, "off" scores are as follows

Phosphate - 4.8 (high)
Bilirubin, Direct - 0.3 (high)

From what I have read online the high calcium and PTH go hand in hand. Not sure what implications the other things have. There is 3 prescriptions written at the bottom of my labs from my surgeon which he'll explain when I see him on the 1st so he must be correcting a few of these.

Any thoughts on these readings? Everything else appears to be within range. Boy, keeping these things in check is ongoing for sure. A life long commitment. :-)

In reference to ferratin I wanted to point out that before my infusions last August it was 11 and then after my infusions it was 101. Somehow over the last 8 months or so it's tripled.

I can't really help because I'm still just learing.

I do know that you want LOW PTH and you want your Vit D to be at 100 or higher.

It might help the vite experts to help you if you posted all your labs including previous labs in spreadsheet form and if you posted your exact supplement regimin.

For example I can't comment on your low D because I don't know what you take for D.  I can't comment on your PTH because I don't know how much/what type Calcium you take.

Hope this helps.

Also make sure your surgeon doesn't give you prescriptions for vites you can't absorb.  They seem to be notorious for giving out prescription D which you cannot absorb.

Ferritin of 371 is not scary. The range can be as high as 350 on some days, as low as 150 on others. If you have been ill in any way, the ferritin may read high, which would be a flase indicator, as far as adjusting anything.

Now would be a good time to test drive some oral irons and see if you can stabilize your good scores.

Beck already asked what I'd ask re: calcium and vit D

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Good to know. Thanks for the responses. I was seeing tripled numbers and though geez, not I'm too high! ;-) I wanted to attach my spreadsheet but it looks like it only takes it from a URL so I'm not sure how.
