Loretta, know that most of the pain will slowly be replaced by all the happy memories that you have of your father. I just lost my mother weeks ago. I literally stayed at her side for many days keeping her as comforted as possible and was lost when she passed. Be very careful with yourself right now. I was nearly in an auto accident becuase my mind wasn't processing correctly for days. I was so disoriented that I not able to post about it here, though I wanted to share with those I consider my friends. My parents were my compass and now they are both gone. Now my thoughts are what would Mom do or think about this?- rather than being able to talk it over with her. It is a real comfort to feel she can still guide me. It does get better as days pass, so be comforted in knowing that your father knew he was loved and cherished by you. I know how lost you feel but you will soon find the right path.
Keep in touch.

Dear Loretta,

I'm so sorry your father is gone.

My father had a large CD collection, and when he passed away suddenly, I found it comforting to listen to "his" music.

He had been ill for several years, with many surgeries and hospital stays every three months or so.  So I know it was difficult for him.  But after his death, I kept wondering about him and waiting, as if I needed a message from him.

One day I picked up his CD "It's Time" by Michael Buble.  On the cover were the initials MB.... Hey, that's Dad's initials, I thought to myself, as I put it in to play.  Then song "Feeling Good" came on.  As I listened to the lyrics, the song just enveloped me and spoke to me as if it were Dad saying, "It's ok.  I'm ok.  I'm feeling SO good now."  I hope you find something as comforting that gives you peace of mind.

"Feeling Good"

Birds flying high
 You know how I feel
 Sun in the sky
 You know how I feel
 Breeze driftin' on by
 You know how I feel
 It's a new dawn
 It's a new day
 It's a new life
 For me
 And I'm feeling good

Fish in the sea
 You know how I feel
 River running free
 You know how I feel
 Blossom on a tree
 You know how I feel
 It's a new dawn
 It's a new day
 It's a new life
 For me
 And I'm feeling good

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, don't you know
Butterflies all havin' fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
 That's what I mean
And this old world is a new world
 And a bold world
 For me

For me

Stars when you shine
 You know how I feel
 Scent of the pine
 You know how I feel
 Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
 It's a new dawn
 It's a new day
 It's a new life

It's a new dawn
 It's a new day
 It's a new life

It's a new dawn
 It's a new day
 It's a new life
 It's a new life
 For me

For me

I'm feeling good
 I feel so good
 I feel so good

Loretta,

I understand what you're going through completely. I was with my Dad when he passed away 3 years ago. One is never ready or fully prepared for the loss of a parent and your life turns upside down for a while, but time is the great healer, and in time you'll appreciate the life that your Dad had and that you were part of his life and he of yours. I take comfort knowing that my Dad lived a very long and full life and that I will see him again.

I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Chris
