People who have had complications from surgery please post your story
I am feeling better thanks for asking, Knock on wood my nausea, vomiting, dehydration cycle has gotten much better. I am no longer vomiting half as much as I was and since being in the hospital for Pnemonia (I had to stay due to not being able to keep down my antibiotics so they had to give me IV antibiotics). During my stay they decided to try and alternate my anti nausea meds but to keep me on them round the clock and had me doing that since I have gotten home and that has worked a lot better. I am praying it keeps working.
Memorial Day Monday I was out in the heat and ended up fainting and went to the ER and was diagnosed with heat exhaustion and dehydration. After that I stopped drinking tea and have only been drinking a few glasses of soy milk and water. I have been writing down my fluid intake and have been doing very well but the Sat after memorial day I fainted again and my PCP had me go back to the ER. Some of my elecrolytes were off which wasnt odd considering and I was dehydrated. I had my list of fluid intake and they now think that I am not absorbing fluids/water the correct way due to a salt inbalance and not having enough salt in my body. My upper abdominal pain comes and goes, my abdomen in tender all the time but the actual severe pain comes and goes and I am told they think its due to my reflux/GERD and possibly the esophagus spasms dismotility since they cant figure out another cause of it right now.
I got a second opinion and saw the surgeon here who is looking over my case and notes and is thinking about doing an acid test on me to see how much acid is still in my stomach despite taking the Protonix 2x a day plus alternating pepcid and zantac and also taking an OTC PPI in addition. He thinks that the medicines arent getting absorbed properly, but wants to look at some of my other tests and get back to me. They seem to think the big problem that is causing all my pain and issues is the GERD/Reflux but also think the esophagus dismotility and spasms can be contributing as well as the Gastreporesis however they feel that is mild and not as major as the other two things. I am also scheduled to see another GI Dr for a consult on Thur to see if there is anything else they can think of.
So its been hard and I feel like I traded a problem for another problem and hope they can figure out what is going on with the water/salt issue so I can get that resolved and stay hydrated and not have to worry about passing out. A few of my labs have been a little off, but I am being closely monitered and thankful for that and feeling a little better at least in one area knock on wood!
Thanks for thinking about me and hope all is well with you.
