I am using a product called Hyland's leg cramp and it has quinine in it. It seems to be working for me. I found it at Walgreens and at CVS.
When push comes to shove....shove hard!

Never regret anything, because at one time it was exactly what you wanted.

Make home-made gatorade....use  unsweetened koolaid, splenda. To a 12 oz. glass with not ice...add enough sea salt to be two servings. It has both potassium and magnesium in it... stir it well. add ice and sip it...It stops cramps, It did mine... and made with splenda and your choice of flavors, is easy to take. ease back on the water just a little...replace with this.... til you get the cramps under control you are flushing out all your electrolytes....electrolytes can vary widely in 24 hours..Quinine will stop the  cramp but not necessarily the cause...I too have had this problem with recent activity and weather change.  this has been the answer my  pcp gave and it works....sweetpotato

UGH, this is not a usual problem for me, but I am traveling, and Thursday I woke up in Germany, had to pack up, get in a cab for a long ride, give a talk, walk in uncomfortable shoes around the client's site, more meetings, long cab ride to the Frankfurt airport and then sort of a long wait there (changed clothes and shoes, and bought a split of wine to ease the wait), then 9 hours in a metal tube in coach, then tried to get my shoes on when the plane landed - and my ankles were SO swollen! - more walking through Dulles airport, pick up the rental car, drive to Arlington, do a little grocery shopping, check into the hotel, try to get to sleep.

THEN I woke up yesterday AM with my ankles still really swollen.  Even though this doesn't happen that often, I DID bring the hydrochlorothiazide with me, so I took one yesterday AM - and of course had to pee a lot.  However, it didn't really bring the swelling down that much (I spent a lot of yesterday sitting in my office, then went to my sister's for dinner and did laundry, and visited my mom in the evening).

I came back to the hotel and went to bed, and within about 30 min, I was awakened by PAINFUL cramping in my feet and legs = all fricken night long.  Apparently, all that peeing depleted my body of potassium.  Got up exhausted this morning, and went to get breakfast at the hotel - and I picked up TWO bananas to eat this morning.

I sure hope that works - my potassium pills are home in San Jose.

Oh man.  I hate that for you.  I am sure the peeinig Did do it.

I had them really bad one night in a motel and put my shoes on to sleep.  Keeping your feet flexed seems to help some.

Glad you are back in the states.  I hope (other than the swelling) the trip was a success.  Good luck with your meetings this week.

Diana Use the sea salt.. it has both potassium and magnesium in it... if I can't make gatorade, I just lick some out of my hand... Just a little, about one fourth teaspoon follow with a little water...I did that about two weeks ago when it was unseasonablly hot here....no fun
