Barker, Wade Neal, M.D., Lic. No. J1859, Dallas
On April 8, 2011, the Board and Wade Neal Barker, M.D., entered into a Mediated Agreed Order requiring Dr. Barker to have a physician monitor his practice for eight monitoring cycles; and complete within one year eight hours of CME in medical record-keeping and eight hours in the topic of practice management with a focus on appropriate coding and billing.  The action was based on Dr. Barker's failure to treat a patient according to the standard of care; failure to obtain informed consent; and failure to maintain adequate medical records.
_____________

FYI:  For those who do not know, this is Texas' latest surgeon to start doing DS.  This is public record and there is nothing in this post that cannot be pulled up on the internet with an appropriate Google search or Texas Medical Board query.

Actually the case and all are here:
http://reg.tmb.state.tx.us/TMBPublicWebSite/WEBDOCS/e00/00/9 C/00009CEA.pdf

Part of the problem is he gave a lap band to someone with a BMI of 26.1  Pt was 63 " and 147.5#

The rest is documentation problems billing for services but not having documentation saying they are needed.

Doc's have to really watch their backs.

I would suggest that it means you need to be extremely cautious about your followup and to educate yourself about appropriate standards of care for the DS. Don't trust him to give you what you need. All "in my opinion," of course.

Wow, he's very popular in the Dallas area as an RNY surgeon.  I'll have to forward this to a few friends that have used him.

I had come to expect that no matter who my surgeon whould have been. I've learned far more here than any info I've received. Since most surgeons base there follow up care on the rny or sleeve procedures. I know I am extremely thankful for this site and the wonderful people who are so helpful.

It looks like you're doing very well by the way, angelntx!  Yes, this is a great forum.
