I'm sorry if this is TMI, but I need to ask a question about hemorrhoids
I am sorry to have to mention this. I know it is TMI, but if I can't ask those of you who have been there and done that, then who can I ask? Apparently I suffer from hemorrhoids. After some bm's I see blood. It only happens when it a hard stool, and only every once in a while. So it was more of an inconvience than a problem. But not too long ago some people posted about "fissures" and how excruciatingly painfull they are and how difficult they are to heal. So my question is, should I try to get these hemorrhoids fixed before I get the DS? I have about 3 and 1/2 months before I can even submit to insurance, so I have some time to play with. Please advise.
Thanks,
Beth

there is nothing TMI about your post, dont think twice about it. I have had internal, external hemorrhoids and a fissure. bright red blood is usually of no concern, but to be sure always see a health professional. fissures are very painful and mine took a while to go away, with the DS i am almost abnormally regular (funny ha) never had diarrhea, or constipation. I do take a 2:1 ca:mg to counteract the constipating effect of ca. depending on what you have you can have surgical procedures to address this, but if you are constipated, try miralax to regulate you....

I agree with airbender. Get them fixed right away. DH had the frank red blood in his stool and ended up having a colonoscopy. While they were "in there", they injected his hemeroids with some kind of medication. It worked to shrink and heal them, and he no longer has problems with them.
Please don't ever apologize for asking questions. The people here are so helpful and this is exactly what this forum is for. I have hemorrhoids and fissures since my DS and it is the most difficult side effect for me to deal with. Please take this time to see a colorectal doctor. They can diagnose and potentially help you and it often takes a month or two to get an appointment (at least in my case it did) so it's better to take care while you are still able to "manage." My worst mistake was letting it get out of hand before seeing someone.

Trust me there are no questions that are TMI, no matter how aweful you think it is, worse has been asked. Now if it seems to be the same old same old thats been asked a million plus times you might need to pack your fire retardant underwear, but in regards to the question...
I battled with a constipation that resulted in a fistula (think fizzure x10) that required surgical correction. DO NOT let it get to that point. As soon as you start to have an issue, GET IT CORRECTED. You have enough other stuff that you need to worry about dont let something like this be another issue that has to be dealt with or over come when trying to heal.

My incidence of hemorrhoids increased the first year after surgery. I would look into treating them before surgery, just to keep things as uncomplicated as possible post-op.
You don't actually sound like you're in too much pain, though? Softening your stool and keeping it soft before surgery may be enough to let yourself heal normally, but you can consult with a doctor about how appropriate that would be.
