OT - Alabama Tornado recovery info
Hey all, as you know I live south of where the tornado**** in AL. One of the biggest problems seems to be for under clothes for all ages and sizes and sexes. As WLS patients who are shrinking, etc. we have clothes maybe. If you are interested in donating them, I can get an address if your willing to pay shipping to a church in the area that will distributing them DIRECLTY to people who need them at no cost to the people who lost their clothes.
Of course, This is optional, I just wanted to throw it out there. Another HUGE need is donations for animals. I am told food and treats are needed for lost animals and they have set up a base place in Montgomery, AL.
The Montgomery Humane Society

you can specify it goes to tornado affected animals as well
WSFA news has a lot of info online as well if you want to google stuff.
Another good source is LCMS church's who are organizing free clothes and other needed supplies.
Also one of pastors who is right in the middle of all the devastation is collecting items for distribution directly to the people who need it without having to wait on FEMA and other gov't programs. They are arranging with the City of Birmingham to secure busses that will bring people to the church where the items are being sorted and organized by sizes. They will also use monetary donations if you are interested in helping in that manner. They can be make payable to the church and mailed in. Please PM me for address and proper contact info, as I do not think I am allowed to post that here. The church will also accept pet food donations or funds that can be directed in that area.
There are still many people missing and unaccounted for. The search dogs are still out looking and sniffing. Going to be a long recovery down here. Let me know if you have questions or want the addy for donations or sending needed items. We are also told battery operated radios and flashlights are needed.
Here is one of the many stories from the area where hundreds were affected.
