So much pain still.. lost faith in ER's, DRs and my surgeon

Endometriosis:  When Dr E (my surgeon) did exploratory lap surgery a few weeks ago he said he found endo and cysts that had to be drained. I have had extremely bad pelvic pain for many years now and they have done a lap years ago and didnt find anything. Prior to that and my symptoms they all thought I had endometriosis. No one knows how much or what he removed since he is not giving me my medical records.

GYN: I need to follow up with my GYN regarding the endo and cysts etc. However she will not see me until she has the surgery and pathology report as she has said it would be a waste to see me and not know what was found removed etc. So that is why that is on hold.

PCP: PCP has ref me back to my GYN for follow up of what my surgeon said he removed, he has refered me to digestive heath for an EGD (which I am having this coming Wed), to the rectal specialists (they saw me Friday and confirmed I do have fissures), and is in the process of trying to refer me to a hemotologist (hemo doesnt feel the need to see me as my Iron isnt extremely low yet but I would like to be seen) and to the Bariatric Clinic here (again having issues since I am self pay and they do not accept self pay patients, they also wont see me without my original surgery report and recent surgery report)

Medical Records: I have been trying to get my original surgery report for close to 5 months now. Not only have I been calling, emailng and writing both the hospital where I had surgery and my surgeons office but so has my PCP, GYN, Liver Specialist and a few other ER's who saw me. They are now withholding not only my original surgery report (I have no idea how long my common channel is even) but the surgery that I had two weeks ago with the endometriosis and cysts. Again not only have I requested it but my PCP has requested it many times and even showed me on Friday how many times his staff has put in faxes with my signature to release the records to the hospital and to the surgeons office. We are all very concerned about why they are withholding this information. I am going to call both the surgeons office and hospital tomorrow and try once more and let them know I will be contacting the Medical Board as well as an attorney if my PCP and I do not have those records sent and or faxed.

Last nights Hospital Trip: I did end up going to the ER shortly after my last post last night. I got stuck with one of the same Drs who originally saw me the first time I went to the ER. He ordered X rays (both chest and abdomen), gave me fluids, did blood work up (he said the only things that were off was my Potassium was a little low (he gave me potassium in my IV and it hurt so bad that I forgot about my pain elsewhere), and I have the start of a UTI which is not uncomoon for me as I get frequent UTI's despite doing everything to prevent them and taking a Cranberry supplement daily and mentioned me being slightly anemic which I already knew.

I was there for around 7 hours and developed a migraine and asked for something for the pain for my belly and head and was given tylenol and anti nausea meds. He said he would do X Rays to rule out an obstruction again but there wasnt really much he could do and didnt want to give me pain meds as he said they only made things worse. I was dehydrated slightly so ended up getting over 2 bags of fluids and the hours dragged on because the Potassium took so long to order and then they had to slow it way down because of how much it hurt. He said nothing came back in the X rays and it sounds like it could be an Ulcer or a bunch of other things he couldnt diagnose and to get an EGD. I explained that I had one scheduled for this coming Wed and he said that is good and hopefully that will show more. They released me after 1am and gave me liquid Potassium (is this even going to get absorbed if I take it?) and Cipro for my UTI. I havent taken antibiotics since before surgery so am a little concerned about that.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Keep them coming along with prayers and swing some critters if you can for me. While I dont want there to be anything wrong with me, I do hope they can find something through the EGD on Wed and fix it and end this pain.

Call the hospital's LEGAL DEPT and speak to someone (not a sec'y) and tell them your HIPAA rights are being violated with the withholding of your medical records.

I agree this may be your fastest way!

ETA:  Or the Risk Management Dept.  (they are usually under the legal dept.)

I may have recommended to you before that some fertility clinics actually have better education about things like the endo/cysts.  They also tend to have more up-to-date equipment available.  I.e. had a vaginal ultrasound at the fertility clinic- something that they did not have at my regular gyno.  Something to consider if you find that there are additional endo problems.  I would talk to your gyno about this option- it is basically like your PCP getting you to a specialist.

I certainly can understand and sympathize with your situation. I'm sure being a self pay patient merely adds insult to injury. I'm not sure what your financial situation is, but when you get copies of all your records, I'd make copies and send to Dr Keshishian. Your issue may not be DS related but if it is, he will point you in the right direction. Though not my surgeon, the man is a saint.

Holy crap.  I am really concerned for your pain and for Dr. E's handling of the whole situation.  Money should be the last thing on his mind right now.  He performed surgery on you and now he should be figuring out wtf is wrong!  I am so sorry you are going through this.  Please keep us updated!

***hugs*** I'm sorry you're in so much pain hon. My next stop would be my gyn practice. With an endometriosis dx, that can be pure torture. You'd be AMAZED where the pain can crop up and how bad it would be.
