Coming off slowly
GASP!!! You had surgery 84 days ago, and you've ONLY lost 44 pounds??? Why aren't you at goal already???
Just kidding.
If I'm reading your ticker right, you started out with an excess weight of 144 pounds. 44 pounds equals 30% of 144, so in essence you've lost nearly one-third of your excess weight in less than three months.
When comparing yourself to others---and yes, we ALL do it---you need to look not at the number of pounds, but at the per centage of excess weight lost. For instance, someone who started with an excess weight of, say, 220 pounds, would have to lose 66 pounds to equal your loss of 44 pounds.
You're doing fine.

You look to be on target to me. I think you might be a lightweight like me. I lost -21 in the 1st month, -10 the second and third month. So, just like you, -40 in 3 months. Hang tough!

Soooo how much loose skin do you actually want??? If you rocket down to your goal weight you're going to look like you're wearing a skin suit out of silence of the lambs. You're going along perfectly...no it isn't broken and yes you're going to continue to lose. The first three months is a massive shock to your system and you'll drop a large amount quickly but no body can sustain that loss without resulting in organ damage and failure so you're metabolism will slow down to compensate. Think of your poor poor liver right now! To lose more eat more. Easier said than done right?? Up your protein and see how faaabulous you can be. Move and change your negative mind set about your body's ability to change.
Now trust your body girl. You're not in charge and you're not on a diet...the whole diet mentality won't serve you now. You can't just skip off this ride and go back to being off the wagon...you've become the wagon!!! What an amazing ride. Good luck and RELAX! You're winning at every turn. xx

"Skin suit out of silence of the lambs" lmao. I'll have to post this in my house in case I get down about this too.

Hi,I had my DS on 02/03/11 and since then I've only lost 44lbs. I see everyone else losing it faster. I know that i shouldnt compare, but i'm just curious if i'm doing anything wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks
I think that the thing that's more important than the numbers on a stupid scale is HOW YOU FEEL, and HOW MUCH NUTRITION YOU'RE GETTING IN.
You had a DS. You're going to malabsorb, you're going to lose weight.
Please, worry about getting your vitamins in, staying hydrated and keeping your protein intake at a healthy level.
Don't worry about the stupid numbers on the stupid scale.
Let's see, that's been about 12 weeks, so you've lost an average of 3.7 pounds per week. You've lost just over 30% of your excess weight if I use your ticker information.
What's the problem again?
Let me phrase it this way: I had 240 pounds to lose. I lost the first 100 pounds, or 40% of my excess weight, in about four months. 10% per month. Perfect. Now, you're looking at that 100 pounds as if it's some kind of miraculous speed loss, right? That's the problem. You're comparing apples and orange. You need to compare percentages, not numbers of pounds. My 100 pounds is 58 pounds for you.
It took me two years and two months to lose 100% of my excess weight. Guess what that averaged per week? TWO POUNDS.
Reality check time here, okay? Your expectations are skewed. You are losing just fine and should be jumping for joy!

I hate to tell you but weight loss after the DS sometimes is slower than you hope and there are many stalls and you just need to be patient. Seems most all of us start wondering if it's not going to work for us- just everyone else - and soon you will be asking if your DS is broken. Put the scale away and dont give people progress reports every week or you will be disappointed. It's going to come off just not at your desired pace. Water fluctuations and all kinds of changes are going on inside and your body is trying to fight to hang onto the weight. I am only weighing once a month. Just keep doing what you are sposed to and in time you will love your DS like most everyone. I am patient but I get anxious too at times and wonder if the weight loss os stopping now. Seems many go thru that here.
