Coincidence & Paying it forward in the Uk
HI Guys, so my Mum is in the neuro wing of the teaching hospital in the Uk where I had my leak all fixed up in 2009. As alot of you know the leak was a major one that the docs here at ORMC in Fl couldnt sort out for me so I went home and the lovely Professor Fiennes and his team at UCH in London sorted me out.
Anyway, I was in the line in the cafe for some lunch today (Huge roast chicken salad) and lo and behold Prf F is right behind me!! He was so sweet and gave me a huge hug and said I looked so well now (I was skin & bones when he was treating me) and he laughed at my huge salad and piece of chicken but said he was happy I am "serious about my protein requirements". Anyway, I told him how much protein I eat and how many shakes I get in, my vitalady vits etc and he has asked me to go to his support group that he runs at a private hospital to talk to prospective RNY'ers and DS'ers next weeekend. I said I would be delighted as a way of saying thankyou for all the great care he gave me!!
So I went through my bookmarks this afternoon and have printed off loads of high protein recipes, Vitaladys Vit plan, post op recovery tips etc and plan on sharing all this with the group. My Mum said she has a "before" pic of me at 280lbs which I can take along too!! EErrrr Great, thanks mom lol......
One of the nurses caring for my mum asked me about all this as mum told her I had been chatting with Prof F in the cafe. So I told her the story of my WLS and she shyly asked me if she could go along to the support group. I called Prof F's secretary (who happens to be his lovely wife) and she said that I could bring the nurse along. She is so keen on the Ds she has been reading the Board this afternoon in her break time!!lol She isa round the weight I was when I had my DS bit she is only 26 and she admitted her weight makes her job difficult at times, being on her feet for 12 hr shifts etc
My Mum pointed out that some good has come out of this experience after all as who knows how many people I can help at this group!!
Just thought I would share this productive afternoon with the people who would really appreciate it!!
BTW - MUm got cleared to be dischrged tonight!!Yippeeeee!!!!!
Love to you all

Had a band in 2005 at 280lbs, had band removed and DS done on Jan 22nd 08 at 220lbs in Spain, now 135lbs and a size 4!! Happy as a Clam!!Dontcha love the DS? It's the best tool around!!
No my surgery was in Jan 2008 and the leak was found straight away but Dr Baltasar thought he had stopped it. However, this wasnt the case and it erupted as an emergency abccess in sep 08 and it too****il mid 2009 to get it all fixed up. I was in ORMC here in central fl for 3 weeks, TPN, surgeries, etc but in the end went home to the Bariatric ward at UCH where Prof F fixed it all for me. No probs since.
