I'm just rebounding from being on TPN for 3 months.

In addition to what others have said, I'd recommend:

1) Getting an account at MyFitnessPal.com (MFP), and logging in EVERYTHING you're eating and drinking, every day.  It's a pain in the beginning, but you'd be surprised at how much protein you're NOT getting a day when you write it all down.  MFP has the most comprehensive food database I've run into ever.  It's free.  You can set your own protein, fat and carbs goals per day by playing around with your caloric intake goal (which we don't care much about).  It also has a support community.  If you go over there, I have the same screen name as I have over here.  Friend me!

2) Set a goal to drink 150g of protein in shakes per day.  Jazz it up however you need it.  I use Lori's shake recipe--it's the only thing that agrees with me.  I couldn't drink shakes at all for about 8 months, so now that I can, I'm not letting up!  It's a blessing to be able to rely on those when I can't eat.

3) Get a local PCP to monitor your progress.  My PCP oversees my TPN stuff.  He and Dr. Greenbaum are in communication, but if I need something right away, my PCP is my go-to person.  He orders my bloodwork, and I saw him in person when my legs started swelling.  You need some local help to get you through this.

Meat roll-ups, jerky, and yogurt are not going to be enough to pull you up, especially with the symptoms you're describing.

I hope your blood work reveals where the problems are, and that you get some relief soon.

You've already had the best possible advice, so other than echoing the GET HELP NOW!!! message, I will add that digestive enzymes will help you to absorb whatever protein and other calories you do consume.  Your local pcp can prescribe these for you, so get on that right away.
No excuses. No one here is impressed that you are a picky eater, or that your surgeon is 3 hours away. Be grateful that we aren't just shining you on and saying oh well, in THAT case, it's ok to wait an additional week, or continue to eat poorly. It isn't ok.
Doesn't matter how hard it is. Just do it.

Larra posted: "No excuses. No one here is impressed that you are a picky eater, or that your surgeon is 3 hours away."

I don't see it as Tonya making pathetic and lazy excuses, I see it as her expressing the fact that the things she listed as obstacles ARE obstacles. Real obstacles that are complicating the picture for her. Obstacles that are difficult, but that must be OVERCOME.

Notice I used the word: overcome. Tonya must find a way to overcome these obstacles, and she is looking for assistance. That's where we come in.

But I agree with Larra, it doesn't matter how hard it is, just do it. That's how we overcome the obstacles in our lives. We just take a deep breath and do what we have to do. Lord knows I've had to do this many, many times. And I know I will continue to have to do this as my life unfolds. That's just the human condition and it's how we learn and grow.

Lynda

PS: Yes, Tonya, I agree with the others on this thread, get a good PCP to manage your long-term care. Your PCP can work in conjunction with your surgeon, and, with the knowledge you gain from personal experience, and from this board, you'll be able to get a handle on things just fine. :-)

No one is saying her excuses are pathetic or lazy (you said that) but they ARE excuses and that was what Larra WAS saying.

Ok it's time to stop the train wreck. My intention of my post was to (1) Get some other ideas of what I could do that I hadnt thought of that I could implement into my diet until I could get my labs back and could meet with my doc. (2) To make sure that pre surgery folks fully grasp with life changes that they will have to COMMIT to and that they might as well gather resources and support system. Oklahoma has a very crappy support system. All the bariatric groups I have been too have pretty much shuned me due to the type of surgery I had. That's ok everyone is entitled to there opinion.

Now I did not post this for a pity party or attention. So the cursing and lectures are not necessary. Like I have said repeatedly, I understand the importance of shakes and getting your protein in. These issues that I am having have become more for lack  of a better word, noticeable in the last 2 months. I just want people to realize that no matter how you feel ( I felt AWESOME until then), don't stop being diligent about your nutrition.

Thanks to those who offered up advice. I have researched each and everyone of them and will be getting my labs drawn tomorrow at the hospital that work. YES I DO KNOW WHAT A HOSPITAL IS!!!!!!!!

Ummmm are you having a bad day or  did I indirectly offend you some how? I just find the fact that you said I was whining and screeching funny. No one has ever used those words to describe me. It's sort of funny to me. Most people think I'm a ***** because I'm a little harsh. Oh well, Anyway, you have a blessed day.

*snort* Uh huh.

No dear, I'm not offended. I will be very pleased if I see evidence of an end to "I'm a picky eater" and "due to financial constraints I had to stretch my protein," followed by large changes in the story line.

Or can you not see how you have changed your story throughout the thread? The first post of such an exchange is usually the most truthful one.

Be that as it may, I do hope you  have gotten a clue from this thread and that you actually follow through on getting the right labs drawn immediately and then acting on that information. If you continue on the "I have three kids and  can't get away" type excuses, the day is not too far away when you won't be there for them. And that would be tragic.
