If Dr. Elariny did the surgery then try to relax and have a little faith in him - he is the best - esp at lap surgery. Going home tonight will be tuff but yea am not surprised for lap surgery. Even breast augmentation these days are day surgeries and you leave the same day. Cysts are realy painful and the pain can radiate - move and stress scar tissue. Be thankful nothing is major wrong and be positve all will get better ! :-)

Cysts can cause a ton of pain and it radiates. Endometriosis can be painful as well, but I bet the cysts are the origin of pain. Hopefully now the pain will be gone since the surgery.

There are many PPI's.. some work for some and others need a different one. Give a different one a try and see what happens. I had stopped my PPI at one point and then I had to go back on it again. How dumb I was to think I could get away without taking one !

As far as potassium, I have fought low levels for a long time, it was not until I was put on Micro K that is stabilized. I am sure they will talk about this in follow up . You are about where I was when I had to be started on it.  I would trust Dr E, he has a great reputation. Give him a chance. Then if not happy get another opinion. Be straight forward with him about your concerns in a nice manner and see what he has to say.

Hi Kimberly.  This all sounds quite right to me.  Endometriosis and ovarian cysts can cause EXREME pain.  The first surgeon likely felt one of the cysts or endometrial tissue and thought it was a hernia, based on your operative history and other presenting factors (negative labs and nuclear studies).

The muscle separating in your abdomen is VERY normal, especially since you have a child.  This happens to pretty much every woman that carries a child, and once it's separated, it never really goes back.  This is called Diastasis recti.

I would expect your potassium to be tanked, with as little as you have been eating/drinking, but more importantly, with the vomiting (and can also happen with diarrhea too).  If it WEREN'T low, that would puzzle me.

The EGD- I'm not sure why Dr. E took this stance.  I DO know he doesn't like to do hiatal hernia repairs until you have lost most/all of your weight, as they can shift, enlarge and change over time and with significant weight loss (this is why MY hiatal hernia surgery was put on hold back in November and I am having a repeat EGD soon to check the status before surgery is scheduled to fix it).  I would suggest that you follow up with Dr. E about trying other PPI's and/or a combo approach to address the acid issues.  There are LOTS of meds out there for this.

I sure hope your problems will be resolved and that you can start feeling better soon!

Thank you all. I am supposed to leave for Arlington today for a convention but dont know if I am going to go. I feel alright and not in too much pain, just some cramps below my belly button.

On my discharge papers I asked for everything and they said they didnt have anything except my discharge papers which had no instructions at all about what they had done/removed or what I do. I asked about this and they did not know. They were obviously ready to get me out of the hospital. On my discharge papers it tells me to follow up with my PCP and GYN but it says I DO NOT need a follow up with Dr E. (my surgeon). I asked about this 3 different times and they said that is what he said. I am quite puzzled with this and am going to call his office here in a second.

My DH did get pictures but obviously that doesnt help me as I have no idea what is what but there is no actual surgery report. I have also emailed my PCP and he is trying to schedule me for an EGD through my hospital here etc.

Thanks for all the love and support!

My surgeon did not ask to see me for a follow-up after my exploratory lab/internal hernia repair.    He told me to call if there were any problems, and I didn't have any.    You've gotten good feedback from others here.   If you continue to improve and don't have any problems, I'd just try to relax and work on feeling better!
