I am new on this journey. I saw my surgeon for the first time last month. I've started my 6 month supervised diet, so I do have awhile to go before I get a surg date (ignore my avatar info..just had to put some date there) and I just got the labs he drew at that date. I need to start some Vit D, so I want to order some from the VitaLady, but can ya'll look at my labs to see if I need to order anything else from her? Some of my labs seem a little on the low side of normal, so any experts, please advise.

Thanks,
Beth

Is this all they did?

See anything that says PTH or parathyroid hormone?

Your D is horrible.

Your B12 is scary low! You can start having nerve damage at levels below 400 so get on that right away.

Beth, I don't know if you are aware of thhs, but you can have a normal Calcium result when your Calcium is really so low that your body is "borrowing" Calcium from your bones and teeth.  You can find out if you are doing that by having your PTH tested.

Is that list...the one you posted...everything?

Sorry, I thought the PTH was about my thyroid. The PTH, intact is 24. They did more, but it is so much I didn't know what all to post. What else should I be looking at?

Thanks again,
Beth

They have given me a script for Vit D 50,000 units, 1 a week for 8 weeks, and told me to start OTC Vit D 1000 units 2 times a day.

You can post it all and some very smart people can help you understand it.  I'm a one-trick pony, so I only know about the Calcium-PTH-Vit D connection and a little about iron.

Also, if you have the time, you can post the Reference Range, too.

The Vit D you are taking now is not the Vitamin D you will need post-op.  Yours is probably in a gel-cap--which is an oil--and we don't absorb oil.

As far as I can tell, your PTH is nice and low...so that means you are getting your calcium through your food.  This is a good thing.

iron and ferritin not looking good

zinc on the low end

D is bad, you can buy the rx, but even as a normie, won't help much, and 1,000 IU of dry D3 won't be much help. lemme know if you want to fix it

Calcium is a tad high, which tends to be bad, so are you taking any calcium citrate?

Got leg or foot cramps, cuz your mag is saggy

B12 and folate just about stop my heart. If you were my loved one, and the doc won't write rx for you, we'd be doing the veterinary b complex shots, IM, daily to jerk both of those up smartly

Protein, albumin, A, E, and the rest are ok

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

VitaLady,

sorry it has taken so long to reply. I had my NUT/Exercise class and my MCMB (or whatever that psych test is) this am. I do not take any suppliments, I only take my diabetes meds (oral), percocet and muscle relaxants for my herniated disc, and BP med and cholesterol meds. Please tell me what I need to get from you and how I should take it.

Thanks so much,

Beth
