Any experience with Florastor probiotics?
As I was doing research because I find that Primal Defence Ultra is really harsh on my system, but I just got done with a round of antibiotics for a sinus infection and I was thinking I needed to revisit probiotics, I came across this article:
http://articles.cnn.com/2009-03-10/health/healthmag.probioti cs.stomach_1_boulardii-probiotic-saccharomyces?_s=PM:HEALTH
And it says Florastor is really good against c diff and wondered if anyone else here has ever used it?

I haven't tried it, but Tammy--who is about to go for a DS in Mexico with someone who doesn't even LIST the DS as one of his surgeries--might benefit from your experience:

Anyone? The key that is interesting is that it is a yeast-based probiotic, not a bacteria based one. So, you can actually take it at the same time as antiboitics and it will not be effected.
Oh well, I'm buying some tonight and will report on it myself...

Florastor is a single ingredient product containing the non colonizing non spoor forming yeast S. boulardii.
This "good bug" has specific activity against several gut pathogens. It neutralizes two specific toxins secreted by the C. diff and also helps prevent the C. diff's from implanting in the gut wall. It is also not neutralized by the AB's.
I helped a California DS practice write an abstract on a clinical trial on the use of boulardii to help control recurrent C. diff infections not responding to AB's alone. We had really good results. It's worth a try.
The boulardii is the ingredient in the PDU that makes it work well with so many. Here is another source for a similar product:

Hope this helps

That's more than helpful, that's some really good information.
Thanks, Dr. Detroit!
Do you know how much fun it is to say that?

I have been taking it for several weeks now. It is the second probiotic I have tried. I am trying to reduce the number of bowel movements per day/night (3 - 5) and minimize gas ( pretty bad usually starts around 4 pm and lasts most of the evening). The result is that nothing has really changed.
I am starting to wonder if maybe drinking tap water is causing my problem.
Hope this helps

Tap water has nothing to do with it.
Have you looked into a round of Flagyl?

I did do a round a Flagyl prior to doing my first probiotic. I felt great during the treatment and had none of my gas symptoms whatsoever. Once I completed the flagyl, I started a probiotic. The symptoms came back almost immediately.
Nothing has put a dent in them since.
They are not debilitating or anything like that, but they do make me stick to working from home and I avoid social events in the evenings.
I'm not sure what to do from here. I was thinking of upping my fiber?

Challie, some folks do a round of flagyl followed by a maintence dose every few days. I've never done Flagyl myself, so I don't know how much, but if you post a new thread I'm sure someone with experience can let you know. Have you checked every single ingredient on the things you are eating? Might want to increase the probiotics also....
