Vitamin Question
I agree with Julie......you will save $50 a week on pizza and Chinese Food alone....and your restaurant budget will be cut by 50-60%....before surgery: appetizer, salad, entree, dessert (maybe)....now you can either have a hearty appetizer as your full dinner or eat half of the entree and save the other half for lunch the next day (2 meals). Its a wash. On the other hand, you WILL spend more on clothes....because you can FINALLY find NICE/Quality clothes in your size...not cheap 3x-4x stuff at Wal-Mart or Sporting Goods Stores.....Its a tradeoff you will be more than willing to make.
Yes. It's very true. Actually, I tend to spend more like $100 on vitamins and medications each month, though I'll admit to having special needs beyond the typical DSer and I take many "optional" supplements as well.
Not to mention my grocery bills are insane. The first year they are a bit less, but now...holy hell they are expensive. I spend upwards of $350-400/month on food just for myself.

I eat some expensive stuff: babybel cheese, shimp, cocoa almonds and only the best bacon. I eat 1/2 package of bacon a DAY. I also eat a ton of cream cheese.
I used to buy in bulk when I lived in NC and shopped at Aldi but now I only have Wal-mart. There isn't a Sam's club or Aldi.
I used to live on cheap pastries and $1.oo burgers and white bread. And yeah, the bag of cookies and chips and cereal, but I still spend a lot more now than I used to.
So I guess, as in everything DS, YMMV.

Ooh, yum, I wanna eat at your house!
And yeah, I totally agree about pre-op eating. I mean, I could get really full on a box of cereal and a gallon of milk. Or if I wanted to binge...half a dozen donuts is only a couple bucks and I'd be full for hours.
Nowadays, I'm gonna need some cheese and meat when hunger hits.
I'd go broke eating babybel though...I buy the gigantic 2lb bricks of cheese. LOL
And cream cheese? yes! I eat it right of the spoon. hahaha
High protein snacks are really expensive. I like those cocoa almonds, too. And beef jerky is pretty pricey.
My poor food budget. Luckily I have cheap rent.

one of the first things my surgeon told me was that expect to pay 1200-1800 a year on vitamins..... .
Everyone should take supplements anyways, so in reality you shoudl already be spending about 20$ a month on vitamins for yourself, so with the ds you will spend an extra 30-50 beyond what the average person without a DS shoud take.
Also consider that lets say you were not having the DS but instead you were into bodybuilding and fitness, you would still be taking a lot of vitamins and supplements and spending the same money but for a different reason.
the vitamin i take i spend 120 on for 3 month supply and i am pre-op and this is just a multi.
Everyoen should take vitamins, ds or no ds, but your life depends on it with DS so 50 dollars is a small price to pay

If you have a FSA account through work, vitamins can be bought with that money to save $$ on taxes.
Duodenal Switch hybrid due to complications.

Thanks everyone, this is a lot of good information
I'm already taking a multi vit and fish oil every day.
Is there a site where I can get a list of all the vitamins & amounts?
What is the best protine shake & amounts?
I spend a lot of food right now, because I have 5 growing kids. I don't eat as much as I use to with the band, but I have my "loose days" and eat a little more than I should
I am wiling to pay the price for my health and the length of my life
