OT - or not, random vit D info
Karen, I'm not taking any oral iron right now. I am going for iron infusions. I have considered starting the hemme iron the Proferrin Forte and all of the rules don't aplly with it as far as keeping it away from other stuff. If I was taking 200,000 units of D, I would be separating those doses and not taking it all at once.

You're going to laugh at me. I didn't realize 7 was so bad! Mine was 8 pre-surgery. I knew it was low, but they listed the "values" and 10 and under was considered deficient. I thought since I was so close to 10 it wasn't too bad.
This was my report: (love being able to see all these online)
Reference
VITAMIN D TOTAL, 25OH 8 ng/mL
25 OH Vitamin D Status
----------------------------
<10 ng/mL Deficiency
10-30 ng/mL Insufficiency
30-100 ng/mL Sufficiency
>100 ng/mL Toxicity
The funny thing is I have fair skin and spend a decent amount of time in the sun (and also driving, which is kind of sun exposure). Guess I'll double the D I'm taking (which is your D, heh).

A level of 7 would FREAK me out. I am pre-op (surgery on the 16th) and my first pre-op levels came back at 24 and my surgeon immediately wanted me to up my supplementing. I will have my levels checked again next week so we shall see how they have come. I do have to say my surgeon may have different standards then what my labs say as my labs were run by my PCP and they are at two seperate clinics and not affiliated with one another at all.
This is my exact results:
VITAMIN D,25-HYDROXY: 24ng/mL
Reference range: 30 to 80
Unit: ng/mL
(NOTE)
REFERENCE INTERVAL: Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy
This assay accurately quantifies the sum of vitamin D3,
25-hydroxy and vitamin D2, 25-hydroxy.
0-17 years:
Deficiency: less than 20 ng/mL
Optimum level: greater than or equal to 20 ng/mL*
*(Wagner CL et al. Pediatrics 2008; 122: 1128-38.)
18 years and older:
Deficiency: Less than 20 ng/mL
Insufficiency: 20-29 ng/mL
Optimum Level: 30-80 ng/mL
Possible Toxicity: Greater than 150 ng/mL

The "toxicity" mentioned would be D2 only. Moot ofr us since we absorb 0 of it.
There is no known toxicity level for water soluble D3. Some suspect levels of around 750 might product symptoms, but still not poisonous.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
My first test of vitamin D level in November and it was a 3.9. The doctor's assistant called up and left a frantic voice mail message telling me he was calling in a script for 50,000 IU daily and I had to start it immediately or I could get seizures. He sounded very concerned. I had no idea it was that bad, of course, and he said I had the lowest vitamin D he's seen. I make all sorts of awful records, apparently.

Have you got your dry D3 for post-op? That oil-based stuff won't do you any good after you're switched. It's oil and it's D2 not D3. If you need some 50's of dry D3 I have some extra.

I got some from VitaLady - the Tender D3 stuff sitting on my desk ready to go. I am done with the 50,000 IU oil caps they prescribed, getting my D retested next week so I'm hoping for some double-digits. Thanks for the offer though, i appreciate it Gina.

Mine was so low 3 years ago, they could NOT even get it to register on the scale!!!! Now it's about 70 (can't remember the exact number) but until I was switched, I took the reg D3 50,000 every day, now I take the dry.
