One of my steristrips came off - should I panic?

One of my steristrips came off - should I panic? It's the one nearest my incision where the JP drain was...that's been draining and I guess it got pretty wet and the next nearest incision's strip came off. It's only been a few days since he put them on when the staples came out. I know they said they should dry up and fall off in 10 days - it's way before 10 days so I'm scared. I put a dressing on it for now. Is that ok?

Unless you can see a deep hole in your body, it's FINE. :)

They are meant to fall off when they are ready.  Don't peel them off on purpose, and unless you are bleeding from the sight or it starts to look infected you will be fine.  You should well be on your way to healing and it should look just fine.  Nothing to worry about at all.  Relax.

You should be fine.  I was told they will fall off when they are ready, but when I went on day 7 for the drain removal, the NP removed all the steristrips.

Ok. It was bleeding a little bit, so that's why I put the dressing on it for now. Is it ok to do that or should I take it off? Sorry I'm being so scared. I don't want it to get infected.

Don't panic.  It's fine.  Just keep the area clean and cover with a bandaid if it is seeping (or it makes you skeevy to look at  ).

I just kept changing the dressing as necessary (the "hole" where the drain was lost it's steri strips the first night because of weeping) and just like Ellen said when I went in for my one week they ripped all the steri strips right off.

You're perfectly fine!

I'm with the "as long as there's no gaping hole" you're fine.  I had them on my c-section incisions and since they were under my belly, fell off/ripped off pretty quickly.  You can always use a bandaid in its place, but I wouldn't worry.  I think from my c/s, I had ripped them all off by day 6 bc they annoyed the heck out of me.

Started researching the DS in Dec 2008.  2 years and one baby later(my 3rd), I'm finally switched!

It's normal.  The best dressing (I found) to keep the seeping/oozing off your clothes is to put a tampon on the incision with surgical tape holding it in place.
