Hey Lisa, call Dr. Bonnani.  He just addressed this issue at the last support group meeting.  He explained why sometimes diabetes can reoccur.    Good to see you on the boards again!

At three years out, what is your typical diet like? How many g of protein, how much water, how many carbs and what type of carbs?

Here is something else from the website labtestsonline.org:

The A1c test will not reflect temporary, acute blood glucose increases or decreases. The glucose swings of someone who has "brittle" diabetes will not be reflected in the A1c.
If you have a hemoglobin variant, such as sickle cell hemoglobin (hemoglobin S), you will have a decreased amount of hemoglobin A. This may limit the usefulness of the A1c test in diagnosing and/or monitoring your diabetes. If you have anemia, hemolysis, or heavy bleeding, your test results may be falsely low. If you are iron deficient, you may have an increased A1c measurement. If you have had a recent transfusion, then your A1c will be falsely increased (blood preservative solutions contain high glucose levels) and not accurately reflect your glucose control for 2 to 3 months.

If you are iron deficient, you may have an increased A1c measurement. Oooh Oooh Ooooh! Maybe this could be it. How's your iron???

Were you taking Keflex (Cephalexan) for your cellulitis?  I know that Keflex will mess with your blood sugar.  Just a thought.

OMG, I just took Keflex a couple of weeks ago for a UTI and it kicked by butt - it is so not the antibiotic for me.  I ended up with a yeast infection because I guess it doesn't discriminate good from bad bacteria (none of them do but gosh ). Thank God for yogurt and probiotic supplements!!!  Keflex is strong though, stronger than any antibiotic (for me) that I have ever been on.  My fault though, I didn't want to go to my doc and a family member had the script handy.  Can I say that I am thankful for Keflex, but I hate it, hate it, hate it!!! I'm sure it could bring your blood sugar levels up.  An A1c of 7 averages glucose levels in the 170's range - not good any way you cut it.

Best,
Leila

My diet, while it hasn't been great (probably eating too many carbs, I guess) hasn't been too terrible.  I get plenty of protein and I drink enough fluids...but something's definetly wrong for the number to be this high.

I am still on the Keflex, but hadn't even started it when they tested the blood - so sadly I can't blame that.  As far as being sick for the past few months, yes I have been - but the cold only really started at the end of September.  When I say sick, I've had a messed up thyroid since May, and before that I was seriously deficient in Vitamin D.  I have had more aches and pains in the past few months being at the so-called perfect weight than I ever did when I was heavy.

I have been on Metformin in the past; looks like that may be in my future.  And I will call Dr. Bonanni - I need to be as informed as I can be.  I'm thinking that since it's been almost three years, maybe I need to be "back in the fold" with being on these boards and attending the Support Group meetings - even though I've moved and am about 2 1/2 hrs. from Abington now :(

How have your labs been and what kind of supplement regimen are you on? There could be more to this than meets the eye.

Just FYI, I've seen an A1C fluctuate as much as 3 percentage points in the same month due to acute illness.  It is a 3-month marker, but is skewed by acute illness processes; thus, may still mean nothing in your case.  Get the testing done and be sure.  It's the only way to know.
