mine would be RESEARCH the DS, your surgeon, the hospital, what you need for aftercare....research everything and then go over it again five more times.

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway. Because bees don’t care what humans think is impossible. (Bee Movie)

The first thing to worry about after leaving the hospital is hydration!  Sip, sip, sip.

And if you can't sip enough go to the ER and GET some FLUIDS!!! Once you get behind that is the only way to catch up!!! There is NO SHAME in getting some FLUIDS!!!

Dang, this was going to be my 1 thing!

Don't let yourself get behind on fluids, MAKE yourself drink.

If you cannot drink, get IV fluids. Don't wait!

Being dehydrated will cause nausea and even if you resolve the fluids the nausea sometimes stays once you have it. (Ask me, I know)

Basically, YMMV.

We all have different DS journeys. There is lots of great advice on the boards, but don't be surprised or discouraged if you find your experience diverges at times.  For example, Anna's advice up above about being full from 2-3 bites never ever applied to me! I could eat a bit more volume from the get-go. Doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with my DS. (Though I remember posting here freaking out that my DS was broken because I ate a whole egg - LOL!)  Some people like to count and track every morsel and weigh daily, others find it leads to obsessive behavior.

Be open to learning and be honest with yourself. Find what works for you.
