this must be new. I didn't have to do a 6 month diet 2 years ago. Hmmm. How's it going?

Taylor,
I really think it is due to how backed up he is. Lost 14 pounds in 4 months. Not so great,
but at least its a loss.

Generally speaking, it depends on the state's intermediary,,,the entity that makes the payment for Medicare.

I'm having my sleeve redone and I will have to do a six month diet!   Don't you just love Medicare?

What Betty B. said.
Even though Medicare is national, the details around the requirements vary by location, depending on which private company is contracted to administer Medicare claims in the state where the service is provided.  Medicare makes overall general policies, such as covering WLS, but leaves what it (not we patients!) considers to be minor details (such as whether or not to require the supervised diet) up to the private MAC (Medicare Administrative Contractor).

I had my DS with Medicare and had to do a supervised diet of three monthly appointments, but I think this was more a requirement that my surgeon's practice had for their Medicare patients than the MAC itself (I'm not certain).  Dr. Anthone in Omaha, NE does not require his Medicare patients to do the supervised diet.

My husband did not have to do a supervised diet.

I had my DS in March here in Indiana and Medicare did not require a six month.   I have United Healthcare for my secondary insurance.

Hope everything falls in place for you.

I just had a revision with Dr. Greenbaum and I have Medicare for my insurance.  I didn't have to do a supervised diet at all.
