Fair Food. What's your fix?

I look froward to the 4-H Fair ever year to eat a elephant ear. I just love them. I also go to the smaller fairs around during this time of year to get my fix of them. I eat about 3 in a 2 week time. This year I am hooked on the rib-eye sandwiches minus the buns. So good. The new food this year at our fair is the CHEESE CAKE DIPPED IN CHOCOLATE ON A STICK. As much as I love cheesecake, I had to pass and thanks to my DS, it was done with ease.

What new foods are you seeing at your fairs, and what is your fix? Karen

Funnel cake.  But, I haven't had one in years.  I avoid fairs, haha!

Giant filled cream puffs. They had them in South Dakota, but I haven't seen them here in the Northwest.

Good thing, too.

Wag more, bark less.

Are these like a cream horn. I love me cream horns. I eat one every 2 weeks. Home town bakery that makes them fresh daily. Do cream puffs have white cream or are they like a pudding inside? Are they made from dough like a cake, or flaky like a croissant? Karen

Nope, these are just regular cream puffs that are huge - the size of a paper plate. You can get them with fruit, sauces, etc. (Bigger than the one in this pic.)

Too perfect of timing on this!  Our county fair is going on this week!  I have been going to our fair since I was 7 months old!  (I was the youngest of 4 and we have all been 4-Hers our entire lives!)  The DH and I get passes and go EVERY night!  It used to be one eating freenzy for us.  Well, it now is I get what sounds good, take a couple of bites and the DH eats the rest!

The first food I always go for at the fair is the FRIED SWISS CHEESE ON A STICK!!!  So, that was my first food to purchase Monday night.  Ate maybe 3 bites and passed off the rest.  The DH informed me that he isn't fond of those... so unless I plan to eat the entire thing, I shouldn't be getting another one this week!        Guess I will have to find someone else to go with!  lol

I think tonight I will have one of the sausage sandwiches with the onions and peppers... all 3 bites that I am able to eat!  (minus the bun of course!)

Oh I love the fair!  They will be pushing me around that place in my wheel chair when I am 102 thanks to my DS!

Fairs are so fun. I take my 4yr. old grandson and teach him how they judge the pigs and cows, like I know any of this. I am a city girl, but he listened and seem to enjoy it. I don't ride the rides, or play the games, to much money. I do support the dairy and meat farmers, so we go for lunch and supper and watch the people and walk through the barns. It is such a learning process for young kids.

When you are 102 and at the fair, I wonder what kind of food, animals, and rides will look like. Karen

OK this is jus for the brave souls out there...

One word - GYROS!!!

They are sooooooooo good!  I eat them with a fork out of the pita, and do not skimp o the yogurt sauce!

The bad part is, since I am eating theset a fair, I never know how it will sit with me later, but I am usually OK.  The yogurt sauce bothered me pre-DS too, so I can  not complain, but it tastes so good.

Oh and let's not forget Zepoles!!!  Its been so long since I've had these, but they are awesome!

Our county fair just opened this past weekend and will be running for a month.  I can't wait to go and get roasted corn on the cob.  That is my all time favorite fair food.

I went last year and treated myself to some authentic freshly *****otton candy that I hadn't had in years (shared it with my son and threw away most of it).  We also split a deep fried s'mores (all of 2 or 3 bites for me).  But this year it's all about the corn.  Well, maybe some smoked tri-tip too.  :)
