HI!!!!  I'm getting ready to have a revision DS in December and I have recently uncovered some.... interesting information... In one of my readings it said that one side effect of DS surgery is strange body odor....?!  Has anyone had an issue with this?  Or any other weird side effects I should prepare myself for??? PLEASE be honest!  I want all the dirty details!

THANK YOU!!!!

I have been around a lot of DSers and I have never noticed any smells.  I will not say it does not happen because I have seen posts where people have complained about this, but I will say at least from my observation I have not encountered it so I believe it is rare.

I have met in excess of 50 DSers in various parts of the country and I can say that not one single person had any strange body odor.

ok, so before I really started reading into this board I had heard the same thing.

and now that i think about it...what kind of strange body odor is it supposed to be?

a body odor like eminating from a person? Thru pores in the body or flatulence??

I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of DSers I've met in person, and I have yet to find any of them to have any sort of strange odor. And no one has ever told ME I have any sort of odor (and I have friends and family who would NOT hold back on that tidbit if it were true!).

Woah... I'm sorry if this question offended you...this surgery is very serious to me... it's my life that I'm changing and I'm counting on people who have already made that change to help me out here...in the future when you have a comment like that to make... please keep it to yourself... thanks

Understand that every few weeks somebody comes around to ask us this.  And it basically comes off as, "Hey, do you guys all stink to high heavens or what?"

We don't.  It's a myth that we've all frankly had our fill of.

I have no sense of smell (it's called "anosmia"), so if I stink it doesn't bother me!!  LOL

But my mother and my sister are like bloodhounds and would not hesitate to mention even the slightest odor.  They don't smell anything.  (Well there was ONE day, immediately post-op that my sister said I needed to spray something that smelled good in my bathroom.  But not since then, and she would have mentioned it...really.)

There IS ketosis...and your mouth will taste like money butt from what I understand.  (I don't have any personal experience with monkey butt, but right after MY surgery I posted asking if it would be possible to learn to breathe out of my ass because for sure that would smell better.)  But that happens with any rapid and massive weight loss, not just the DS.
