Stuff y'all probably answer all the time
I have to say, I do not get gas during the day but do get it in the evening. I was not a big gassy person before wls so its not bad. No one really notices. Its definitely not bad enough to NOT have the surgery. I would think the bathroom issues wouldn't be as different as rny since they both malabsorb.
I could never live with a pouch or dumping. It just wasn't a question with me. At least with ds, the food TASTES good. With rny its low carb and low fat.

I have something to say in regard to the gas issue. I used to have an RNY and my gas was the same if not worse back then than it is now.
That being said, when I had my RNY I let myself get bad gas. I guess that after months and months of not losing and realizing I had failed I pretty much ate whatever I wanted, since I was going to not lose anyway. This meant eating simple carbs and having very stinky gas. Once, my sister walked into my room about 5 minutes after I had farted and thought my cat had pooped in my room, it was that bad.
Now with my DS I try to limit my carbs much more so I can get the full benefits of the DS. That doesn't mean I don't have a treat once in a while, I just don't do it constantly. But even when I do over do it, I tend to get bloated and gassy, but not smelly gas... unless I drank milk or something.
Basically, with either surgery it all depends on what you eat.

I think the thing to remember is that every procedure, every medication, has benefits and risks. One just needs to decide whether the benefits outweigh the risks.
Every problem and possible negative consequence from the surgery has some basis in fact. However, those things are neither inevitable or unmanageable. It is a commitment to change. Change in your body, change in how you eat, change how you manage symptoms. If the benefits of the procedure meet your needs and outweighs the risk, then I think it is worthwhile. Only you can decide what is right for you.

I am the official DS food test pilot. You know the things we are NOT meant to eat...well I give them a whirl to see what happens...usually resulting in arse splitting ****s and lots of rolling about the floor going OWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Seriously I can eat almost anything EXCEPT: Excessive pasta (1/4 cup mixed in with meaty goodness and I'm ok, any more than that and I'm farting like a Gatling gun).
Tzatziki covered peanuts...oh for the love of God let me die a merciful death. I almost folded inside out and killed my dog, my partner and most of the surrounding environment.
Cashew nuts made me feel really vile yesterday. Not normally though....odd!
White bread...one slice is fine...two slices and my arse is clapping.
Corn used to kill me but I can eat it no worries now! That's the thing with the DS. The foods you couldn't eat last month you may be able to tolerate this month and forever. I cannot tolerate lactose though but I was always lactose intolerant it is just worse now so I buy lacto free milk. I don't suffer with yogurt luckily but milk shakes, lattes etc are out unless I can supplement with lacto free or soya.
Basically my life is easy. I have control over what I eat nearly all of the time except when I have my period and then I am insane. My weight loss has been utterly effortless. I don't calorie count, carb count or **** I didn't do this in order to be on a diet. I've been on a diet for 25 years so that is NOT an option! I just eat my protein first and then my veggies and then a small carb if I can fit it in. I try to stick to under 30g of carbs a day by picking one carb a day, normal a potato or a hand full of corn chips that I want. Sometimes I don't even think that critically about it. I drape everything in fat (my cholesterol level is now 3.0 from 6.7 UK levels) so if I don't supplement everything with fat I'll get dry skin and lackluster. Plus I LOVEEEEE fat...it is my friend. **** low fat ****that stuff made me fat!
I almost got the RNY but thank God I got pointed to the DS forum. It is the best choice I have ever made. I will NEVER be obese again. I never could put my hand on heart with the RNY and say the same thing. The revisions forum is a good place to go pre-op as there are so many folk revising to the DS from RNY...it speaks volumes.
I don't doubt I'll regain some weight (usually 20lbs statistically) but that will be from goal and that is NOT super morbidly obese which was where I started.
At the end of the day what ever you work at will work. If you nature dictates you need to be calorie and food conscious then the RNY will work for you. If you're like me and get too obsessed with calorie counting and want a non-judgmental relationship with food (which is what I had) then the DS is for you.
I went too long being at war with food and my body. I just couldn't face failing at a bariatric surgery. I chose DS because I believe it will give me the best odds.
So far it is AWESOME!
I have no real appetite...I used to be a compulsive eater. It was like someone switched off a light and it was like it was no longer part of my programming the moment I woke up from my surgery.
Speaking of which..my surgery was really rough. It took 11.5hrs and I had some complications from the GA . You go ******g mental post op at 1.5 months out as the toxic waste leaches from your stored fat. Truly you'll be a psycho basket case or a weepy couch lump. I think it's the case for the RNY too...but certainly I lost huge amounts of weight initially post op and the accelerated loss bought on my nuttiness. I stormed off and out of everything. He heee I was an arse!
By God my farts stink now! They are like wafts of hell sulpher and I weild them like a weapon. In my case my arse is worse than before...the smell not the frequency! I only **** once a day normally, unless I'v been a jerk and eaten scary **** then my arse might explode.
